The Hawthorns Bed & Breakfast

The two owner were so nice, the room was perfect as was the bathroom. The breakfast was the best Scottish breakfast we had during our trip. Best B&B, would recommend it to anyone going north of Scotland

Hosts very friendly and helpful. We had everything we needed and more besides. Lovely spot on the north coast of Scotland and very handy for the Gills Bay ferry to Orkney

Great hosts and great hotel, perfect for people with dogs

This was just an overnight after driving up from Dornoch and getting on the ferry to Orkney at Gills Bay the next morning. However Eilean and Graeme greeted us in the parking area and helped us move into our room. Provided us with lots of info on their property and where to eat. Our room was very comfortable and breakfast in the morning had lots of variety and our choices were delicious.

The warm welcome from Graeme and Eileen plus a very comfortable room and excellent breakfast with fresh berries made my stay at the Hawthornes!

Everything here is well thought out, it is obvious this couple have been doing this for a while. Amazing breakfast, very roomy and comfortable space. Excellent spot to stay and explore the area.

Proximity to ferry was perfect.  Hosts were just lovely and checkin was very easy.  Would definitely stay here again.

The hosts were absolutely wonderful. We had to leave early in the morning and wouldn’t be able to have breakfast and they brought some nice items for us the night before that we could quickly eat. Location was good for our stay and is very close to Castle Mey which we visited.

The Hawthornes is a lovely rural B and B near the very northern tip of mainland Scotland. The garden is very attractive. The hosts are very sweet and accommodating.  Our room was simple but very functional and quiet. Breakfast was ample, tasty, and made-to-order. The only minus about the inn is that the internet speed in that region is extremely slow, as our host explained to us.

Such a nice place to stay!  We needed a place close to John O'Groats and this place was perfect.  The hosts were so hospitable, my husband and I loved talking with them.  The room was clean and comfy, and we had no issues with the room.  The hosts even were willing to do a load of laundry for us which saved us hours from having to find a laundromat!  We were so, so pleased with this place. Can't recommend it enough.

Very welcoming and accommodating hosts!  Pleasant conversation and great suggestions for our trip!  Extremely willing to make us as comfortable as possible. Room was well laid out with everything you need. House is very close to the Castle of Mey, Gill’s Bay Ferry and John O’Groats for some cheesy souvenirs. The Castle Arms was a great option for dinner, walking distance from the house.  Our hosts even booked us a reservation prior to our arrival. One less thing for us to worry about!  Comfortable place to lay your head and excellent hospitable hosts!

Just a stop over whilst travelling NC500, very friendly hosts and very humerous, welcomed us on arrival and booked a restaurant for us up the road, room very cosy and breakfast was lovely, will definitely stay here again when in the area and recommend to any other traveller to stop over whilst passing by

The hosts Graeme & Eilean are so friendly & welcoming, their B&B is in immaculate condition with excellent facilities making this a great home away from home. This is a truly pet friendly B&B with such thoughtful touches as a dog tag with the B&B’s details (in case your pup foes wandering) a dog bed and towel all left in the room for us arriving.I cannot recommend their B&B highly enough!

First of all Graeme & Eilean are the best hosts we have ever had. So warm and welcoming. Helped with advice of where to visit. I wish I could of stayed longer. The breakfast was fantastic and they went well out of our way to meet our requirements. The property is lovely in a nice quiet area, yet close enough to John O Groats, Dunnet, and Thurso. The rooms have everything you need. I will be returning again in the future certainly!!

This was the first B&B that we have ever stayed in so didn’t really know what to expect! It really was a home away from home and were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and the beds cosy. It’s very dog friendly, our dog was offered a bed and treats at breakfast time.Overall a great stay, would return if we are in the area again.

The Hawthorns is an excellent B&B in Mey.  The hosts were welcoming, friendly, helpful and very well informed on social distancing and had plenty of anti-COVID measures in place.  The room was perfect - clean, warm and very comfortable.  Breakfast was excellent and plentiful.  Can definitely recommend a stay at The Hawthorns.

The Hawthorns Bed & Breakfast is absolutely lovely! Graeme and Eilean are wonderful and very accomodating. The room was spacious and very clean. The area is beautiful and peaceful. They are taking every measure to ensure safety for guests during the coronavirus pandemic. We will definitely come back here!
