The hotel was to say the least amazing.  I ended getting the junior suite and it was spacious and well taken care of. Security was posted there 24 hours and you can lwVe yoye hotel keys with security and get it back when you return. While yes there is a jail across the hotel, it was hardly noticeable. The only "issue" was the amount of walking you had to do to get your room and some of the lights in corridors were out. i would definitely stay there again.

A great place at a great cost.

Wow… San Diego Suites 974 can be sweet & sour.  CAUTION… these units are owned by individual owners and common areas are maintained by association.  One owner (Mark) for unit # 302… is an absentee owner from the U.S. and is a bit of a FRAUD.  SOUR… Upon arriving, there was a musty smell from certain non-use, along with the place not being clean.  Once we got past the smell, which ended up being a HEALTH HAZARD of MOLD that caused two of the guests with either respiratory or headache issues throughout the stay.  Regrettably were unable to fully use the kitchen or living room, and needed to sit on patio with door open anytime were in the main area apartment.   ALSO…

Now the MISREPRESENTATION and continued SOUR portion for… Mark and his Unit #302…the apartment was... misrepresented... furnishings with missing chairs, couches, TV’s and bedding NOT as described.  OOPS… then Mark changed the description on FLIPKEY after we mentioned these misrepresented facts and were already there.  He said, we must see the photos… and those photos were stale, and excluded missing items.  SHAME on Mark!

SWEET… the common areas of San Diego Suites 974 are well maintained with attentive service.  Beautiful grounds, rooftop pool and huge bonus.  …and other units that we’ve stayed in can be nice.  SWEETER… and Cartagena is always gorgeous
 after visiting almost annually for 15+ years. So, give it a try, but BEWARE of Mark and his units in Cartagena!
Oh yes… FLIPKEY… was not supportive (SOUR) with any of its guarantees.  Apparently, you must bring extra $$$’s with you and pay twice for a place to stay.  …then make any claim for a refund.  Also… FLIPKEY’s disclaimer of providing them notice within 24 hours is not accurate.   Though most properties have afternoon check-ins, per FLIPKEY… we needed to leave prior to going to sleep, pay for another place, and then make a claim.  Of course, if you’re in a single unit and not a hotel, then tough to be moved to another room when you have a family with you and expecting an entire apartment.  Shame on FLIPKEY too!

SWEET & SOUR... Cartagena (sweet) and certain apartments (sour) via FlipKey

I went to this location with my husband and his parents. I had previously called to make sure that our room had enough place. When i got there, one queen size bed, a bed for a single person and a couch. 
I was so ashamed and embarrassed, I had to sleep 3 nights on a couch with NO BLANKET whatsoever even when I asked. No one answer, not the phone, or the person in charge. 

For such an expensive price, i would expect so much more..

The attention is a big part of the service. Not only a good looking place.

Horrible Expirience in a fancy expensive place

Family of 6 traveling to South America! Hotel San Diego 974 was a  good choice that we reserved far in advance. 

What we like:
 -located within the historic walled city.
-The hotel looks wonderful inside
-staff very friendly (not sure if they spoke any English at all so go with basic Spanish knowledge) 
-has elevator
-rooms are spacious with kitchen, dining area and patio
-a/c in every room
- pool in the top floor with lounge chairs and open view (our 11yrs old had a blast)
-very comfortable beds
- moderate speed wifi
-TV in each room

What we did not like:
- hotel is located across from district jail  what made us nervous specially when coming back at night) - the door of the hotel was locked at all times 
- cleaning of room: the hotel needs to have more supervision on the cleaning staff. Bathrooms (we had 2) were not clean daily. Toilet bowls and seats and nearby areas were not cleaned daily, floors had stains for days (that I finally cleaned ), sand and dirt was on the floors which made us suggest that floors were not swept or mopped daily. Dining table was not cleaned daily. 
- administration needs to be more organized: we were addressed to paid again what we already fully paid months in advance! Fortunately, we had proof and documentation that showed them that everything was paid in full-  Be Alert! Ask for a full explanation in your own language! Read the documents they show you! Don't be fooled! Ask for help!

It may become a better hotel once these topics are addressed.


Nice hotel but with issues to work on

This was probably one of my scariest experiences traveling abroad. This host just stop communicating with me. The host of unit 205 EVEN misrepresenting the truth, Airbnb really tried to help but to no avail. The scariest part was the host stopped communicating with me. I did not get a response from them until the DAY we were scheduled to arrive. The host asked if we were still coming and informed us that he needed more information or he wouldn’t be able to complete the booking to allow us to check into the property. THE DAY WE WERE SUPPOSED TO ARRIVE!! TRAVELERS BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN BOOKING. We have too have the utmost trust with these host and this host just isn’t someone anyone should ever trust.  We are coming back to Cartagena but definitely will not staying here

Stay away from unit 205

Booked two condos with the same management company. One was good, I stayed in that condo many times before, but we had to move to another unit for 3 nights and I had the Worst Experience ever in my many years of traveling, what scam, the unit is  advertised  as a "luxury apto" is a horrible, dirty smelly place and what it made the situation even worse was that the so called host was no where to solve the problem, they are "property managers" that have someone else managing the units and that other person have the cleaning lady in charge of the guests. Since we couldn't stay in the unit they told us that they didn't have any other unit available, that we could cancel the reservation. And that was that. Thank god that I know the city, could afford to pay  somewhere while they return it my money, speak Spanish and I know the staff of the building because I have stayed there while in Cartagena many times.
I ended renting another unit that the staff of the building helped me find. Nikol and Julian never bothered to call or to help us find another unit even that we booked 21 days with thru them. They just care about making a commission, they have not experienced in hosting people or traveling, what a shame.
