Borgo Di Ceri B&B

Just getting here is like a trip into a fairytale book, a hidden hilltop fortified town, that suddenly appears before you, when driving through the countryside. To access this B&B, you enter the town walls through a long, narrow, one-lane road that winds up the hill through a series of medieval gates and walls. Pay attention to the traffic lights, this is alternating traffic only. When you get to the top, the town consists of a couple of streets and a central square. Population here is 80. This B&B is housed in a historic building, parts of it dating back to the Etruscan period. Parking is free right outside the house, or anywhere throughout the square. We were greeted by the owner, who is friendly and loves to share the history of the place with you. He was very helpful, helping us with obtaining dinner, despite our late arrival. There is a restaurant and a bar/cafe in the town. Breakfast is served in the cafe, just across the square from the house. We had dinner at the restaurant, and were impressed by the quality of the food, in such a tiny little place. Our room overlooked the garden, which was spacious, well-furnished, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was hidden within a set of built-in cabinets, very cute! Other suites are either in the main house as well, or in a separate building by the garden. Our room didn't have aircon (which may not be a problem as it was fairly cool at night), but it did have a good ceiling fan. There were great views of the countryside, and wandering the small town in the evening was a treat. Make sure to check out the church, with the medieval frescos. Everyone is friendly here to tourists. Really a charming experience!! We chose this place because we had an early morning flight from FCO, and had no problem driving our rental car from here to the airport, taking about 1/2 hour. If we ever needed a short stay outside of Rome, near the airport, this would be our first choice.
