I stayed at Kalonis for 4 days during my trip to Skopje, it was a positive experience for me, I felt fine there. For travelers with no frills this is a recommendable solution that combines a good level with a very convenient price.

Position. The hotel is located in a residential neighbourhood, of any interest. Few cars run there both at day and night, there's almost no noise around: you can’t find a more relaxing place, perfect if you want/need to rest. The town centre is about 10-15 minutes by foot, the train/bus station only 5 minutes. Few blocks away there's a big supermarket where you can shop for food.

Room. I loved my room! Actually I had booked another room, but I was given a superior one, I definitely I appreciated that. My room was indeed a little flat, with a lot of space for a single guest like me. There was a double bed with comfortable mattress and pillows, a desk, two armchair with a table and a kitchen arena. This last one was equipping with a fridge, a kettle, a small cooker and some tools to prepare something quick to eat. There was also a big table, with dishes and glasses of a nice design. The overall decoration of the room was simple and modern, everything was clean and in perfect conditions. Air conditioning, free wifi and a flat tv with some international channels were also included. Honestly I couldn't ask for more!

Staff. Everybody was very nice, friendly and polite there. The guy at the reception was welcoming at my arrival and ready to help me when I asked for advices. Great staff for sure!

Negative. I have to report only a negative thing during my stay. Even if in the booking site I used it was stated that there was a daily cleaning service, my room was never cleaned. Once I asked and they said they would have cleaned next day, but they didn't. Personally, I didn't mind too much, the room was well cleaned before my arrival and I didn't produce tons of dirt. But they never emptied the trash bins and never checked if there was enough toilet paper. This is a basic service every hotel should offer, no matter the category and if the cleaning service is included or not.

I stayed in one of the apartments rather than in the hostel.  As I can't find the 'Apart Hotel Kalonis' listed separately I am posting my review here. 

All the reception staff were very good. A big shout out to Ana who I thank for her exceptional helpfulness. The room was quiet. The area looks a little run down at first glance but I didn't feel anything other than safe and the locals proved friendly. As others have noted the location is excellent being close enough to both the city centre and the bus station.

The lighting in the room was a little dim for my liking. The wifi definitely worked better if I sat on the floor of the apartment lobby rather than the more comfortable chair or the bed.

Great location; excellent staff

Situated very close to the bus station, almost walkable distance. We wanted a quad room, but they had only doubles or triples, but the rooms were nice. The reception manager was a great guy, always cheerful and happy to assist us. Breakfast was a la carte - options included fried bread, omelettes, "Kalonis" breakfast along with tea/coffee and juice.

Wonderful service

Had the privilege of staying here for the super cup final.
Staff very pleasant and helpful, shared the six bed room with other guests, room was very clean, beds are made and of course you even got fresh towels and toiletries.
This is a great hostel in a great city 

A wee gem

The hostel is just superb, located within a ten-minute walk from the train/bus station. If you don't mind walking, you can easily get to the centre of Skopje within less than 30 minutes. The neighbourhood definitely won't take your breath away, but this will be more than compensated by the great service and the room facilities! I had an early and prompt check-in (the room was vacant at 10 a.m.) and as I was leaving very early the following day I was offered the 'next day' breakfast just right away, which was extremely nice after a long night journey. All the staff are young, helpful and speak very good Englsih. My room was on the upper floor of this two-storey terraced guest house (no lift, but I was immediately assisted by a staff member). The room looks more like a big studio, with a large en-suite bathroom, and a kitchen corner. Everything was neat and clean. Modern furniture, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, TV, a kettle and even some plates and glasses for having your own meal, which is not so much necessary as breakfasts are large and delicious. I highly recommend this hostel, especially to independent travellers.
