Stauffer Maturin

Great hotel with great food, service and common areas. The location is perfect 2 of the most important shopping plaza just at walking distance. On one of the most important/busy avenue of the city. The braserie restaurant has amazing fresh cuts of meat, poultry and seafood. Best place to have dinner.

I visited the capital of the State Monagas, Maturín, on a business trip for three days. We choose to stay at the Hotel Stauffer because od recommendations from local colleague. The visit took place at a time of distress in Venezuela, due to a quite complicate social and economic situation, which has generate (worsen at the time of this comments) scarcity/unavailability of any type of goods. Hence, a not so nice expectancy.

But to our surprise the hotel was running as good as possible as if nothing was happening. You could certainly fell the social unrest in the ambience, but the service at the Stauffer was very good. Clean rooms, nicely furnished. Food, although a bit limited in variety was plenty enough and typically nice. Coffee, one essential product in the region (and one of the reasons of our visit) simply: excellent. 

The staff and every person at duty were nice and attentive, even providing tips to avoid unpleasant contact with protest. One only negative note was provide not by the hotel nor its staff, but a pro-government group of people staying on public funds to support the government, behaving noisily and demanding special treatment not well deserve. We receive apologies from waiters and other staff from the Stauffer, took care -on the best possible terms with the rogue people- and provide us with nice service at dinner.

Great example of how to behave in difficult time. Excellent hotel. :-)

Ohh, I almost forget: gardens are exceptionally well taken care and beautiful

I stayed a little over a week and had little complaints. Friendly staff throughout the hotel. Fresh towels, sheets and other routine cleaning services were done daily and adequately. The only service which was really poor was the wifi. It wasn't consistent and you could have only gotten it at the lobby. This definitely needs to be fixed and visitors can get it in their rooms. 
The general hotel was well kept and comfortable. The restaurant was pretty ok although it was the same food available every night - mash potatoes, plantains and vegetables. They were also a lot of cats hanging around and the pond in the middle sometimes smell high of fish.
The empanadas for breakfast was really good but they only had it once. I hope they provide it every morning.
The hotel is located very central on the avenue and next door to the Monogas Plaza which is also a pretty ok mall. When i do come back to Maturin I would definitely stay at Hotel Stauffer again.

Great hotel in time of distress in Venezuela

I have almost six month traveling weekly to Maturin, and staying in this Hotel (company reservation).

Big rooms, very clean, nice pool, internet failure in the rooms, not very good restaurants. Nice ubication near the airport and shoping malls. It's very close to the principal oil companies offices in the city.

This is a business hotel first and foremost. Looking around at breakfast the majority of guests are Venezuelans who most likely work in Maturin's oil industry. The hotel feels a bit dated - like most things do in Venezuela. The rooms are comfortable. There is a gig pool area. The restaurant serves decent food but I found the service to be a bit slow. Don't expect waiters to rush up and serve you - you have to catch their eye first. Having said this the service has been friendly each time I've been here (twice now). The WiFi is dodgy. It comes and goes but it is acceptable . Some rooms appear to have better wifi than others. On one side of the hotel is Mac Donalds and on the other side is a shopping mall with a food court. It is about 5-10 minutes drive from the airport. There is an "Oil Man's Bar", a bistro/restaurant and a gym. The gym is very basic but has all that you really need.
