Me and my husband have just stayed for the weekend we had a studio ensuite. The room was modern and beautifully decorated with everything that was needed. The staff were fab and couldn't do enough. Will definitely be back

Honestly look no further for a hotel! We stayed here on 18/07 and couldn’t find a fault (the only minor and I mean minor thing was we needed new light bulbs in two lights in our bedroom) besides that, wow! 

£54 for an overnight stay with breakfast! 

Breakfast- was amazing, a lovely choice of continental and then a delicious full English breakfast! Served by the loveliest, friendliest host! 

The room- we stayed in room 27 and it was perfection. The shower was heaven, I had 3 showers it was that good! Very comfy bed, spotlessly clean and fabulously equipped room. 

Restaurant- I can’t say how the dinner was as we ate down the road at Oscars but I wish we hadn’t! But like I said if breakfast is anything to go by, then next time we will be eating dinner!! 

The staff- we find it hard to believe anyone has ever found the staff here anything but perfect, everyone we encountered were lovely and really professional but friendly! When we returned from dinner the host gave me a wine glass and ice to have my j20 in my room! A wine substitute as I’m 6 months pregnant and it really made a big difference than drinking it out of mug! If you’re reading this, Thankyou again!

Wow this hotel was fantastic, great location, lovely staff, clean tidy and welcoming. The food was out of this world .... was going to venture out of an evening but didn't need to the hotel had a lovely atmosphere. Value for money is an understatement and will most definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely stay

Lovely exterior and interior of main hotel. We had room 24 which looks nicely refurbed with comfy bed. Breakfast selection good & freshly cooked. Downside is unpredictable opening hours for restaurant (we went to Hartley’s nearby which was amazing), no veggie options for missus in the bar so they lost out on extra money from us. All in all very good, but a few small changes could make it excellent.

Very good, but could be excellent

Amazing hotel

Arrived this evening with a group of friends for the Don Pedros taco and burrito night. We were seated to our table promptly and asked if we would like a drink. The drinks also arrived promptly. We asked if we could have some straws for the drinks but these did not arrive. We ordered our food. We opted for the nachos to share for starters , but asked if we could have then guacamole separately. When the nachos arrived it was a good size portion with the guacamole in a separate little dish as we asked but we were missing the sour cream and salsa, when we explained what had happened these were then brought out to us separately. The main courses arrived I had ordered the tacos but was brought burrito. So my meal was taken back to the kitchen. My friends meal arrived and she had been served the wrong filling for her burrito so hers also went back to the kitchen , our other friend received her meal and only had 2 wraps when there should have been 3. We also ordered some sides of salt and pepper chips and fijita topped fries , the fries arrived just as plain fries so they also got returned to the kitchen. On the menu it stated that the meals were served with beans and rice when looking in the little dish we just had dishes of just beans we asked the waiter and he went to the kitchen to find out . On his return he informed us there was no rice this evening but the chef had topped up my dish with some more beans About 15 minutes into our meal he then return with some rice. We sadly weren’t offered any more drinks with our meal and when we finally got chance to order another drink it had been 1hr 30 and we also received the straws at this point. When asked when the table was being cleared if everything was ok we explained that we could not fault the food but we felt the service was very poor. The lady was very polite and apologetic and explained she would take off a round of drinks off the bill ( we were only drinking soft drinks). When she brought the bill she explained how she had also knocked of the cost of the fries did to them being incorrect. 

Over all we could not fault the food  once it was all correct , but the service was poor.

Lovely food , shame about the terrible service.

I booked this hotel last minute, as an overnight stay before visiting South Lakes Safari Zoo. The zoo is less than ten minutes drive away, so this was an ideal location.
Our hotel room itself was very basic, but functional, which reflected the price I had paid. The bed was comfortable and clean, and tea and coffee facilities, as well as a TV and hairdryer, were provided. We stayed in room 20, which would definitely benefit from a little updating but served well as a quick rest stop for us. 
I was however, disappointed with the state of the bathroom. The fan was extremely loud and sounded either very old, or broken, whilst the shower seemed to pump out the water in intermittent bursts, rather than a continuous flow. In the shower, there were half used miniature bottles of shower gel and shampoo, which I can only assume had been left there from previous guests, as we had fresh bottles and a small hand soap left by the sink for our stay. This did cause me to wonder about the cleanliness of the bathroom as the cleaner had clearly missed these. There were also two dirty soap dispensers, one in the shower and one by the sink, which were no longer in use. Again, the bathroom would be improved with a little maintenance, as the the finish on the vanity unit was also peeling away.
During our visit, there was one member of staff who checked us in at reception, served drinks at the bar and acted as waitress for food service. She was absolutely brilliant - very friendly, professional and polite, whilst easily juggling the jobs of three people. We ate in the bar in the evening and could notp fault the food - typical pub grub, but of a high quality, which we thoroughly enjoyed. 
We visited a nearby pub for drinks, the Brown Cow, which was a lovely country pub and worth a visit.
Breakfast the next day was included with the price we paid for our hotel room and was served in the restaurant. Again, the food was great. The waitress was a different member of staff to the night before and was also very friendly and efficient. 
Overall, a good experience. The staff were fantastic, the food was delicious, the bar and restaurant areas are beautiful, but the rooms (or certainly the on we stayed in) do need updating and cleaning/maintaining properly. 

Ideal location for South Lakes Zoo

I booked on 5th June 2019 on Booking.com for a stay commencing 11th July. I should also state that I did not have to leave a deposit. However on 13th June 2019 I received the following email
 "Dear Guest

Chequers Hotel is schedule to close from the beginning of July and during this period of closure the hotel booking cannot be honoured.

Regards Charlotte 

This doesn't reflect well on the planning at this hotel
