A friend and I happened on this hotel while on a motorcycle weekend tour of the Lake District. I'm glad we did, you will not find a more friendly helpful hotel anywhere. Laura and her Mum were great, and the breakfast was gorgeous. Beds were clean and comfortable

I stayed here for one night on a business trip to Ulverston.  It is a little way out of the centre but only 10 minute walk (or a cheap taxi ride).  The room was a large double room with a sofa (this had seen better days!), but was clean as was the en suite.  Other reviews have commented on the TV - yes, it is very small.  The breakfast room was large and airy and the breakfast cooked to order and sufficient.  The best thing about the place (other than it is so quiet) are the people who run it, friendly and helpful.  So helpful a free ride into Ulverston to the Farmer's Arms was greatly appreciated - although ti did cause me to walk the wrong way back to the hotel later on!  I don't get to Ulverston very often, but would have no hesitation in staying here again.

If you're looking for a shiny, new, platinum-plated hotel ... keep driving. But if you want a clean, friendly, family-run place where people seem to care about making your stay the best it can possibly be ... then pull into Hill Foot. The amazing Laura is a true star. And the breakfast is a phenomenal start to the day.Good luck ladies.

Fantastically friendly hotel

I am staying here tonight for my third visit, so it can't be bad. 

I regularly have meetings about 10 miles away in Barrow in Furness, thus my need to stay in Cumbria. I have stayed in lots of different hotels of differing prices and standards.  For me, this one strikes the best balance between price, standard, facilities and location. 

It is on the edge of Ulverston which means there is a good selection of places to go and eat and drink from here. The hotel could do with renovation, but the price reflects that. The breakfast is just right without being OTT. 

Pippa who runs the place is always friendly. 

I prefer this to the Abbey House or the hotels in Barrow, so maybe have a look if you need a room. 

Much of it is basic, but at £60 a night it is fine for me. 

Sadly it using the market to be sold, but luckily no buyers yet! 

Really good value for money

Stayed for 1 night in room 5. Key was in door not at reception. Door appeared to have been kicked in and repairs were shoddy and lock was not good. Coffee and tea facilities were there but no cups to make a brew. Room stank of mould and this was because bathroom had no extractor so steam and condensation filled room. Windows would not open to air. Electrical cable for bedside cabinet too short so stretched 35cm above floor. Tv smaller than iPad and control had no back and batteries taped in. And then it didn't work. Breakfast was edible until we noted tomato ketchup was bottled in Indonesia and was out of date. When all these matters were pointed out the owner rudely walked away and even lied stating ketchup was bought the week before from Aldi. Went out of date December 2015. The audacity to charge > £80 for this hovel is shocking. Beware all!!!
