Please do not be influenced by the exterior photographs.  This is a lovely Victorian mansion in beautiful gardens with very comfortable rooms which are large, spotlessly clean and still have their lovely Victorian features.

There is little (or nothing) in the way of eating places nearby, so the owner has provided a guest kitchen where you can prepare your own food if you wish.

The breakfasts were excellent and there seemed to be no limit to the choice, but the venison sausages were superb.

A real gem, in a dramatic location, with a lovely hostess and at a reasonable price. Delta is a Dutch lady who, when asked how she came to be there, says: "Because if I'd gone any further I'd have been in the sea." My room benefitted from shutters, which completely cut out the early morning sun and allowed me to sleep later than I had been used to. We didn't have an evening meal but breakfast was of the highest quality. The house also benefits from being 44 miles from John O'Groats, which is a leisurely last day's cycle ride for the no-longer-young.

We recently stayed here for 1 night during our NC500 road trip. We arrived at this lovely old Victorian house and was greeted by Detta, the owner and landlady. Detta was very friendly and showed us to our room and around the shared kitchen and dining room, though we were the only guests there that evening. Our room was very quaint, clean and comfortable. The ensuite was spotless and spacious, the shower was excellent. The surrounding gardens were beautifully kept and we had a lovely view of a sunset at 10.30pm! We enjoyed smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast with coffee, tea, orange juice and a choice of cereals, fruits, yogurt and various jams/conserves.  As we finished our breakfast  Detta joined us with a coffee and we had a pleasant chat before we departed. Thank you Detta for your hospitality and personal touch.

The lady who owns this place is absolutely lovely. We had tea with her and then visiter her place. The room was huge and very comfortable. Also the shower was nice. We had a really good time there ! 

We stopped here on our way along the NC500 and this place took us by surprise. It's a quaint house by the hillside with a gorgeous view of the surroundings. We drove in and was greeted almost immediately by a lovely young gentleman who showed us inside the house, shortly followed by the lady who seemed to own the place.

She was attentive and showed us to our room, told us all the relevant information and then left us to it. 

The facilities are good. There was decent wifi, a very nice bathroom and 2 comfortable albeit squeaky beds. 

We had breakfast included and it was lovely. She made us bacon with eggs and toast along with a choice of cereal.

it was a gorgeous place that took us by surprise. We would love to stay here again.

Everything was perfect. Wonderful place - building, room and also its surroundings. Our host was amazing, she really loves the house and takes care of their guests very well. Breakfast was excellent. We would definitely recommend to everyone.

My partner and I live in the area of Moray in the North East of Scotland, and really wanted to try the North Coast 500 (100% recommend), so booked a B&B for one of the nights on the first day of travelling. 

We were greeted by Detta, the owner, to show us her house and our room. We dropped off our bags and had a cup of tea with her in the guest's kitchen. Her hospitality was spot on and we both said we'd visit again if we were to travel up north in the future. 

You're just about a half hour drive from Thurso so we went there for dinner and then popped to Lidl for a few bits and bobs. Watch out for times however, as Detta told us local kitchens close at 8.15pm so you're best heading to the house for around 6.30pm if you're wanting dinner.

Our room was so beautiful and the views were incredible. We had our own spacious en suite as well which was incredibly clean. Tall ceilings, original paintwork (1865 Detta told us), original shutters for the windows, fires in the rooms, comfortable beds, the list is so long on how stunning this house was. 

Breakfast was between 8-9am and she made everything to your liking with her own homemade rhubarb and apple jam popped in there too! How she manages it all is beyond me she was just amazing.

Couldn't fault this place at all. Done the job with great hospitality and beautiful views. Highly recommend!

What a place! A short walk from the wonderful secluded beach, a super-friendly and warm landlady, with great Scottish fare at breakfast. We'd messed up our arrival time so missed out on food at Bettyhill, but Detta kindly provided some food for us to cook in the guest kitchen, at a very reasonable cost. Much better than riding 6 hilly miles back when we were already tired...fantastic! The best B&B of our 18-day trip, cycling Land's End to John o'Groats. Highly recommended.

Victorian house built in 1854 in... the middle of nowhere. You only ships around you. When you arrive, see that are surrounded by the ships and then you see the exterior of the house...then starts only positive things:
- parking place
- then a nice lady welcome you. She speaks really understandable also for us "landers". She likes to talk with customers but at the same time not "too much"
- wi fi works (except when all the rooms are full and many people are connected)
- the rooms are old style but refurbished (the bathroom is new instead)  and you can have the room with your own room
- the breakfast is really good...and huge in terms of portions (I had 2 fried eggs and a lot of bacon)
- no TV in the room (why do you need it during an highland trip?)

to spend in night as break during a long trip is a perfect place
2 recommendations:
- car fuel tank full (in this area the first petrol station is in Thurso)
- stomach full : there is only 1 restaurant/pub 5 miles away....and if it is closed or too late...

Our family of four spent two wonderful nights with our hostess Detta late December 2018. We we in the area celebrating our families history  and Armadale House was the perfect place to base ourselves.

Detta is doing a wonderful job restoring the premises and is more than willing to share tales of the house and the local area. The rooms are wonderful and full of eclectic furnishing, spotless, well heated with clean modern bathrooms. Detta's breakfasts were cooked to order and we even enjoyed a Scottish meal in the original dinning room.

All in all a wonderful area with great lodgings with walks aplenty near by.

Lovely stay

We had a very nice stay here.  The en suite was functional despite been very small.  The building is old so the floors are pretty uneven. There is no lift.  The breakfast was very good. Traditional Scottish in both mornings.  The room we had overlooked the sea which was quite nice.  There are downsides there’s been the creaks from other rooms. Creaky floors and creaky beds!

Wonderful Bed and Breakfast, excellent hostess.

We feel really fortunate to find this place last minute. Detta is definitely one of the most amazing and helpful owners I have ever met. The house is a listed property, I loved the high ceiling and the interior is kept with a certain style that's really appealing to my taste. Wifi is great - a plus point that is worth highlighting on the highland, bathrooms are spotless, with good fixtures and spacious. Highly recommended!
