The Carriage House

The Carriage House was a Marsden Institution but sadly now closed.  Sold to a consortium who are currently transforming the premises into a venue for stag and hen weekends.  Shame (unless you want a hen or stag weekend).
No more camping, Turkish food or vintage car meets.

I stayed for one night whilst doing the Pennine Way. I had been warned that there was a wedding reception being held that day but I decided to stay anyway. I was made welcome and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The food, particularly the Turkish starter, was excellent. The staff are very friendly.

Had to walk down a busy road - on the verge - to reach the Carriage House Inn which is slightly off the Pennine Way path. At first didn't feel welcome but as the night wore on we found the hotel owner was more than accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them.  Food was good and served fairly swiftly.  Room more than adequate, clean and pleasant. A lovely atmosphere at the bar.  Allowances made for us to leave extremely early with breakfast provided, on a tray,  the night before so we did not need to wait. Great stay - thanks

Hotel very friendly, clean and spacious.  Food very good.  Breakfast excellent,  Cask beers (Black Sheep brewery) excellent.  Hotel at high elevation overlooking moors but just outside Marsden.  Plenty parking.

A very enjoyable stay

We had a fantastic Christmas at Carriage House. The house could be amazing. However it is in desperate need of some work, TLC and general maintenance. It was wet during our stay, which resulted in a number of leaks - the lounge window, the entrance hall, the main entrance porch, and the conservatory into the kitchen. One in particular was so bad we had to catch the water in a bowl and keep emptying throughout our stay. The heating was nowhere near sufficient to warm the large open plan kitchen,  diner, lounge area. So we couldn't enjoy the seated area as it was just too cold to be comfortable. We sat in the kitchen mostly close to the radiators. This could be improved by 3 extrenely draughty and illfitting doors being repaired/replaced. The sports hall door, the karaoke room door, and the main entrance door were all extremely cold areas, where the doors didnt close properly. The karaoke room was more like an outbuilding, so freezing! The dish washer wasn't working properly. We had to keep draining it off. And the oven door was faulty, thankfully it didn't break altogether whilst we were there. The bedrooms were all lovely and warm,  and each had en suite, which was great. But the carpets were full of stains. Again, a good clean needed, or replace with more durable flooring. One thing to note, there is absolutely no WIFI whatsoever,  which should be made perfectly clear. So there was no TV to watch Christmas movies on, and the kids couldn't use any of their Christmas presents that required WIFI or signal, and we could only play music via Bluetooth that was previously downloaded. Again, this should be made crystal clear on all booking sites. The house has so much to offer, but I wouldn't currently recommend it as it stands. Many of these issues wouldn't be quite so obvious during warmer months. With improvements and general upkeep of maintenance, this house could be fantastic for large family gatherings. 

Carriage House has so much potential!

Went to this pub/restuarant for  a meal put order in 45mins later still waiting asked when we would be served told bar eatery came first and our meal had not even been started staff slovenly coughing as serving (full of a cold) could not care if you got served  will not be there again  rather go micky dees and thats rubbish
