The staff were super friendly and helpful and the hunting lodge has a unique charm, would stay again

Very friendly relaxed and welcoming . Cannot comment on breakfast as we had to leave early. We did have lunch on arrival and the Fish Share Platter was amazing .

Excellent food and very friendly staff.  No faff check-in/out.

Arrived after quite a walk all hot and bothered the staff were so friendly we asked if it was cool in the dining room they showed us to a table near the open door with a lovely draft, very friendly and attentive food came within 10 minutes even though it was busy food was delicious and hot, steak was cooked perfectly very tasty sauces as well would definitely come again and recommend. 

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. It has a clean and bright large bathroom .  There is a large garden to enjoy and it’s a short walk to the river

Friendly welcome, upgraded to a bigger room.  All staff were very friendly, and our room was in keeping with the age and character of the building. Big fluffy towels, molten brown shower gel and a very comfortable bed. The bed did squeak as we moved, the only downside to the room.  Loved the location, great value, and we would definitely stay here again.

All round very good. Highly recommend to anyone.

Staff extremely friendly.  The continental breakfast was amazing & good choice.

A really nice welcome on arrival. My room was amazing, a big 4 poster bed, old wooden wardrobe and period chair. Plenty of choice for tea and coffee.I had fish and chips which was lovely and I didnt see any plates on other tables that hadn't been eaten completely, so must be good.A real fire kept thing really nice and cosy and the guiness was spot on.Continental breakfast in the morning was great and my croissant was lively and fresh and warm.

A great stay

Right, firstly, this is a good hotel but it is not without it's quirks!
I found it to be well priced and overall, I'd say it is value for money, far better that an run of the mill Travelodge or similar.
It is well located, ideal for Loughborough Uni and surrounding areas and benefits from good parking. The hotel has good facilities, it would be a great place to stay in summer with lovely outdoor spaces and a real community feel.
The bar area is well stocked and reasonably priced and the staff are really helpful. It has a good atmosphere even when relatively few people are in and the restaurant is very good with an excellent menu at good prices.
On the flip of this, the rooms seem a little confused in their décor. We stayed in the Dalai room and whist comfortable, nothing really fits properly! If you are any taller than Warwick Davies, you'll need to mind your head from the ceiling ornaments when making a cup of tea. The bed is very grand but it is a standard double and if you are tall you will spend a lot of the night playing footsy with the frame. The pillows are good but the choice of bedding is a little interesting as I'm not sure it is the easiest to keep clean!!  With all of the grand décor, there is also a mix of basic wardrobe and tables that don't really mix and the TV is small but well located in the room. The entire room would benefit from a thorough dusting and maybe a little re-think on what goes where.
The shower was excellent and the towels were more than ample.
Breakfast - Wow!! This is where it gets interesting! We were asked if we would like a croissant with breakfast as Chef needs to know how many to cook. Promising stuff I thought, freshly baked croissant in the morning sounds good to me!! I can confirm that the croissants had never seen the hand of a chef at any point, they tasted like they had been defrosted and were warm on top and cold on the bottom. However, the toast, of which we ordered brown, was indeed worse!! The cheapest of bread, poorly toasted was served up along with a selection of jam and marmalade. The cereal options were limited and the heavily bruised bananas would have been ideal if you were making a banana loaf. 
I wasn't overly impressed and then I saw the couple next to me receive their croissants and suddenly I felt blessed. They arrived looking like they had been pre-cremated, black as coal and shards of scorched pastry being propelled like shrapnel into the air as the couple attempted to break into them. They smothered the charred remains with jam but the squint in their eye suggested that this was not the start to their day they had planned.
The coffee was ok though so I took solace in that and headed off into the misty morning.
Considering how brilliant the evening meal was, the breakfast was so bad that it was actually a source of amusement. The staff were thoroughly lovely but honestly, warming a croissant can't be the biggest challenge of the day.

I'm sure we will be back as overall it's a great little place but I think I'll probably swerve the breakfast!!

Good hotel with a few quirks

We decided to give the Hunting Lodge another try as it is now under new ownership and we had heard good reviews recently. We were a party of 6 and we booked for a midweek lunchtime, the restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived. It has had something of a makeover and appeared much cleaner and tidier than on previous visits. The food was served hot and it was very good and the portions were generous. I would particularly recommend the pie of the day which was pork, chicken and stuffing. everyone was very happy with their chosen desserts too. All in all,  a very enjoyable lunch in comfortable surroundings. everyone was well satisfied and we will certainly be returning in the future

Vast Improvement on previous visits

Friendly staff & delicious food 

On arrival received a warm welcome and checked in swiftly.  The bar restaurant area was very inviting and the décor appealing.  Very much reflecting the hotel name.The accommodation itself was tired looking, outdated and in dire need of some TLC.  One hopes that this is in the pipeline as it does affect the overall appeal of The Lodge.  The room was however clean and warm.All the staff were incredibly friendly and worked well together as a team.  They seemed genuinely happy in their work and offered a high level of service. There is an extensive menu with an interest variety of choices to be had. Food was well cooked and tasty and the breakfast was definitely worth the nominal additional cost.Overall in was a nice stay and would visit again. Many thanks to the management & staff

Given a warm welcome

Helpful friendly staff from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. The restaurant should be visited. Good car parking facilitiesLeaving on the Sunday morning well before "breakfast" began proved not to be a problem as a tray with a perfect Continental breakfast was left outside the door while I was using the en-suit shower.

Overnight Stay

Great hotel with boutique rooms. The staff were simply amazing, so friendly and helpful. Our room was huge and although a bit tired in places was spotlessly clean. We upgraded from continental breakfast to full English and omg, it was so good and a very large portion. I must also mention the coffee which was, and this is no exaggeration the best we have ever tasted, it was from ‘Forge’ coffee roasters in Sheffield if you are interested. If we are ever in the area again we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Wonderful stay

Little gem.  Up at Loughborough with my son for a days training the following day.Really friendly welcome, great room(we were in Yoko).  We had to leave next morning before breakfast service started. They wrapped up some croissants and fresh fruit and left them outside our room for us unbudden, which was a lovely touch. Lots of parking, clean spacious room. Just one minor gripe, the pillows. Only one of them, and really flimsy, but that aside couldn't fault it. Will use again, next time we're up here.

The outstanding features of this hotel are the warm welcome and excellent service from the staff, the very pleasant and comfortable dining experience, the nice clean bathroom facilities, and access to a regular rail service. A great place to stay if you are visiting the Great Central Heritage Railway, whose Quorn and Woodhouse station is short distance away by car; and there is also an hourly train service to Loughborough where the Great Central Railway has its HQ (20 minutes on foot from Loughborough station), from Barrow-upon Soar station which is just 200 metres walk from the hotel (step access to platforms) but no noise from the trains at the hotel as they are in a deep cutting. There is enough parking at the hotel but you don't need to have a car to stay here.
