I only went into the bar, I didn't stay in the hotel. But it was a great cozy little pub with very friendly staff. The meals (I had a bacon burger) were absolutely gorgeous and the portions were huge compared to all the others I've recently been to in Northumberland. There's a tv and pool table, and some decent beers on tap. I sunk a couple of Fosters and enjoyed the conversation.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Knowesgate Hotel, we chose this hotel for its location very near to Wallington(2.7miles) and also Cragside (about 14miles). We arrived at the hotel after visiting Wallington The hotel has a convenience store and petrol station next door which is also very useful.. We were welcomed on arrival by Wallie who gave us a welcome drink of orange juice(apple juice was available also) and then showed us to our room(room 1).The room was a good size and the décor pleasant with the usual  facilities wardrobe, hostess tray, TV as a result of boiler problems the central heating wasn't working but an electric heater was provided that meant the room wasn't cold. We asked if evening meals were available and Wallie said it was curry that night. The curry was one of the best we've had served with rice and a side salad after eating we went into the large lounge/bar. There were several locals in who were very friendly. After a good nights sleep in the comfortable king size bed we had breakfast which buffet style and there was a large choice full cooked breakfast, cereals toast etc. We then went to Cragside driving through some lovely scenery calling on our way back at Wallingto. On our return we arranged for an evening meal of fish & chips, this was freshly prepared the fish had a lovely light batter. The day we left Wallie helped with our luggage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if ever in the area again would definitely stay here again

We used this hotel for two nights as a base from which to explore the surrounding areas , and it fit the bill perfectly.when we arrived we were shown to our room , and offered a drink of juice by the owner 

the room was very comfortable  , very comfy bed ,good shower ,a bar with good prices and friendly locals , and to make it complete a full english breakfast on a morning .

Highly recommend stopping off here if you are travelling to or frrom Scotland ,it is located on the road to Edinbourgh and Jedbourgh , If we find ourselves up there again   , would definatley stay here 


We did not know what to expect having read reviews but we were treated brilliantly  the guy running it Dave was verry helpfull nothing to much trouble room was nicely decorated with good views food was ok for the price we paid all round good nice friendly place

On arrival at 14.30 there was not a soul to be seen, Banged on recepton window and eventually a young lad came out, Not very talkative and a bit put out by us trying to check in....first impressions count.  Was a sign on reception saying ring mobile number....no mobile signal for us on Virgin or three so we couldnt do that.  Was given room one which on entering had not been cleaned and was as guests left it that morning.  Was then given room 4,  Keys didnt work in door so could not lock it...Also no toilet rolls.  Took till late afternoon before we managed to find prevous lad to get a new key and some toilet rolls.  at this point we finally managed to get a soft drink at the bar, Turns out this lad and his father run the place and his dad was out shopping so he was very busy....dosent help me to have a relaxing day on holiday.
Room was only ok, Bathroom a bit grubby tiles could do with being regrouted.  Bedroom double glazed window cracked on inside pane and our view consisted of a mobile phone mast and base station.....cant understand why we had no phone signeal with this just 4 meters from our window.
Also NO HOT WATER other visitors have been posting this for several months and its still not working so no shower and no heating.  There is an electric heater standing under curtains........hope fire alarms work!

The whole place smelt of damp and fried food...which leads me onto the evening Menu
Which costs £14.99 for 3 courses onless you have booked a deal with groupon or something.  The Menu was poor and consisted of Burgers of different forms all with chips, Basically all from freezer to chip pan type foods....hence the fried food smell mentioned earlier.  At this point the father was serving us, Pleasant chap, Cant help thinking he is not equipped to run a hotel and is totally under resourced to do so.
Breakfast...no staff to be seen again and was self service food consisting of a a loaf of bread you can toast, croissants..that looked like they had been there for a while, 2 jugs of joice with no lids so fluff and all sorts can get into them and a jug of milk.  Teabags and coffee and small steralised milk portion's,  There was a kettle you had to boil yourself.  We skipped breakfast and just left, No one on reception so just lefy key on desk.
