Great location less than10 minutes from Durham, so the perfect base without the price tag of Durham hotels.The staff where friendly and welcoming.The cooked breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. We did not try the dinner options, but it's a lovely, friendly pub.Our room was a great size and the bed was comfy with a lovely feather duvet.Would definetly stay again.Alina & Steve

Fab stay here, lovely room, delicious food and great entertainment, would definitely recommend.

Booked for new year but forgot to leave a review!

Arrived about 4pm, had a late lunch which was nice, drinks were flowing nicely, got talking to the locals and stayed at the bar all night!

Richard, Clare & staff were great and were very welcoming, nothing was any trouble.

The room was spacious and very comfortable, had a lovely full English breakfast before our departure the next day.

Would definitely return!

Friendly staff, cosy rooms, fabulous breakfasts! Two families booked four rooms this weekend as part of a get together with others in the city. The snow on the first day made travel into the city trickier than we had planned but staff at the pub gave us good advice. The rooms were comfortable with a lovely selection of teas and biscuits. The breakfasts were fabulous with endless top up of drinks too. Thanks for a lovely weekend 😊

The best compliment I can give is that we will be back again. What really stood out apart from the comfy rooms and fantastic breakfast was how helpful and willing the staff were to rectify any concerns or issues.

We were only booked in for one night but it was a lovely experience.
The room had a very comfortable bed with great pillows and bedding. Breakfast was very good and the pub itself was welcoming and fun.
Above all the friendliness of all of the staff really added to the whole experience. I don't know when we'll next be up to Durham but we'll certainly look to come back to The Avenue!

The hotel is a lovely welcoming place to stay. From the moment we checked into the hotel all the staff we came into contact with couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was good. 
The rooms are lovely and clean. The beds very comfortable.
The food was second to none. Very tasty and home cooked. 
Would definitely stay again when in the area.

Warm welcome, great view over fields. Useful usb sockets in plugs to charge phones.

Cosy rooms, fab breakfasts, friendly staff.

A really great stay!

Brilliant stay, lovely place

I had a lovely stay, the room was cosy and comfortable, and all staff I spoke to was very nice, down to earth, helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was really well cooked and tasty. The only feedback I have is that it was quite dusty on the floor between the bed and wall, and on the top of the headboard. The electric shower was as electric showers are; functional but not super efficient. I'll stress though that I did really enjoy my stay and would definitely stay again.

We stopped here on our way to and from a funeral.We were greeted warmly by the customers and by Claire,who apparently running The Avenue on a temporary basis.She looked after us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.The food was excellent and good value for money.The rooms were clean and comfortable,though possibly need a bit of updating.We would stay again as it was one of. the friendliest pubs we have ever stayed in.Thanks to the clientele and especially Claire,ten out of ten.

Journey break

Really nice food. Friendly staff. Good portions of all food.  Excellent chef and staff. Nothing is an issue for any of the staff. Also have various menus such as a lunch time menu, pizzas and curry menus Good affordable prices would recommend the Avenue pub Inn Shincliffe to all as a good experience for food drink and nights out.

We recently stayed here for a few days and had a truly wonderful experience. The Avenue is in an ideal location, in a beautiful village setting with easy access and good transport links into Durham City Centre.
The rooms were so comfortable and cosy. We slept so well. My husband and I loved the little touches such as the soft towels, mattress toppers, toiletries, books and throws and tea and coffee making facilities. It was very peaceful and tranquil.
The breakfast was also amazing with generous portions and served quickly, absolutely delicious! We were so well looked after by the owners and staff alike and felt so happy and at home that we were really sorry to leave.
We definitely want to come back and would highly recommend staying here. 


A Wonderful Experience at The Avenue 

My friend and I arrived at 6.30pm as we had to locate the restaurant. We ordered drinks which were delivered to us. My friend ordered a starter and it was brought to the table before the rest of the group arrived between 7 and 7.15pm. Main orders were taken by the solitary waiter Service was slow which surprised me as only two nore people were seated in the large room.
