Excellent
300 reviewsI'm going to give this charming historic property 5 stars just for the flowers, which are like nothing you're likely to see in any other Swiss town. The presentation is simply delightful. Flowers, flowers everywhere! (In summer of course!) The hotel is sort of a focal point for the locals -the bar and restaurant is busy, with an authentic old world style. When we arrived, we were told we didn't have a reservation, which we DID, by email, with all the back and forth including the final one from them telling us we were all set. The woman at check-in was very nice and accommodating (gave us a lovely room with a balcony and fabulous view of the glacier) but she tried to tell us that we didn't do the final confirmation. My husband found it when we got to the room, but no matter; it all worked out. Just make sure you have it all in writing before arriving. Dinner was quite good - quiche as an appetizer and fish/vegetables/tiramisu three courses. Breakfast was also nicely presented and quite filling with a nice variety of local cheeses and breads. We ordered the picnic lunch for our next hike on the haute route stage, which was a ham / cheese sandwich on amazing bread that made the top 5 meals of our trip for some reason. It was a decent hike with plenty of uphill, and for some reason was just what the doctor ordered when we needed it. One complaint: The folks in the room next to us yakked loudly out on the balcony until about 3am. For hours. The more they drank the louder they got. I finally got fed up and went out on the balcony. leaned around and said, "hey, it's really late. Can you keep it down?" They apologized and promptly turned in, which I was thankful for - but why don't hotels monitor this kind of thing? I realize in an inn this small they'd likely gone to bed hours earlier, but there was no one to complain to, so I had to do it myself. Super annoying. Rude guests pretty much are the cause of most complaints at hotels the world over... and this was just one night for us- so it's hardly indicative of what most people will find here. But maybe if the hotel reads this they can remind people that it should be quiet after a certain hour so that other guests can get a good night's sleep. We all pay something for what we believe should be a pleasant stay, and shouldn't be denied it because 5 or 6 people are inconsiderate. This hotel is lovely inside and out with an authentic Swiss feel and a genuinely welcoming appeal overall. Highly recommended!
