Landgasthof Grossteil

(+)Landgasthof Grossteil is a great place for those, who want to see the central part of Switzerland and canton Obwalden specifically. We booked a room in the guesthouse a month ago and were afraid that we could not go due to new restrictions related to COVID-19. At the end we could travel and spend a nice day walking in snow shoes from Turren to the border with canton Bern. It was great! Most of Switzerland was covered by a fog but as soon as we passed Lungern, the weather was suddenly sunny! We arrived to the guesthouse around 15:30 and were warmly welcomed by an owner, who explained us everything about the Landgasthof. It is so nicely decorated everywhere that you feel how important for the owners to keep their guesthouse attractive and cozy. We stayed in room #3, where we had everything: comfy bed, a small table with a chair, shower with hot water and even coffee machine and tea in the corridor! You can find different brochures and booklets about the region and neighboring cantons. The guesthouse has also a restaurant, where we had our dinner. The menu is divided to daily and dinner options. Both lists are not long and mainly contain meat. The daily menu is a bit less expensive. You can also order a tasting menu (3-5 dishes for 60-80CHF). I was surprised how long their Swiss wine list! I did not even know that Obwalden has a vinery. I guess it is important for local travellers, who prefer to order something made in Switzerland. As in many places in the confederation, you would get a big tasty portion but do not expect anything extraordinary. All personnel wear either masks or a special covering face transparent helmet. The tables are not closer than 1,5 meters from each other, so that the people have a distance of 2 m. The dishes cost 25-45CHF. The breakfast is between 8 and 10. It is better to say at what time you would like to show up. The options were good: bread, butter, cheese and ham, salami, corn flakes, brewed coffee, tea on request, jam, juice, fruits. (-) I do not know what was the problem to say, if they offer the eggs or not. I asked twice and did not get a direct answer. A waitress was looking for something, could not find it and we decided that it is not a good idea to keep asking, so we ate what was offered. It would have been nicer if we could get the answers on our questions via the messenger a bit faster. In general, there is not much to complain about. Highly recommend this place!
