I stayed one week at CapitalBay. I had a fun time. The vibe is easy going, everything is clean, it is a good deal ;). The owners are very awesome dudes, very helpful and nice. The wifi is the best I have gotten so far in Sri Lanka. They also have a small and nice collection of books. You walk 2 min to the beach. The food is very good. I recommend it.

The hotel was the best thing that could have happened to me dueing my stay and it is byfar the best place to be in Arugambay.

What makes it so outstanding are the owners' attidudes.
One can feel the difference if someone is in the business for cash or . And the three guys are clearly in for fun, which conjures a great feeling and atmosphere, especially in such a commercial place as Arugambay! 
For me they created a safe harbor between a mass of people who want my money.

Although they have fun in their job, they are absolutely professionell.
They are so tidily and I noticed how often they are cleaning their hotels.

Further the hotel area and especially the cabanas are really nice and give a good kind of beach feeling.
One can see that they had an eye for the detail while designing the hotel, the result is a really agreable and refreshing place to hangout.
Everything seems young, refreshing and alive!
The hammoks are a great bonus.

The wifi exists and is working well.

If you are in for Surfing, they can surely give you some advices, they know what they are talking about.

Some of the guys are very good cooks, you should try a dinner in their restaurant.

The price/value relationship is very good, regarding what an expensive place Arugambay is.

All in all I can recommend Capitalbay to everyone who doesn't want to stay in one of the cheap and unpleasent small hotels, but also doesn't want to live in the stiff, superficial, arrogant or vain kind of hotels that exist in the upper price league.

In Capitalbay I could relax and feel at home while surfing or discovering the landscape.
Hotels that create this ver feeling are very rare and as always: Everything comes and goes with the owners!
And these three guys are the best and most pleasant hotel owners I met so far!


The owner and his crew are really nice and helpful (not just to earn some tips; i had the feeling that most people employed in arugam are just in for the money, not (or not only) so at capitalbay; i tipped right before i left). I had the moon room which is quite basic but functional, the bathroom has already seen some years, but if you weight it against the price capitalbay lands somewhere at the top of arugam's generally low value-for-money scale.
Renting surfboards was easy and i didn't get scammed which seems to happen quite often.
Booking the safari with a shared vehicle was perfect.

Fiets of all, the rooms are basic, the shared bathroom is fine and the place is cheap!

This is not amazing, the guys who run the place are amazing. We stayed for 5 nights and many a night we played cards together, they played loud dance music which we love and they will help you with literally everything.

When we got ripped off at A to Z surf shop, they helped us so we wouldnt play.

Nice cheap guesthouse, close to the beach at arugam bay. Rooms are clean and the owner is very nice.   They want to help with everything, arranging surf lessons, hiring a board ect. Initially we only wanted to stay here for 1 night but that became 4. I would recommend this guesthouse.
