Krinda Walauwa Residence

I was in the Hill Country during my recent visit to the Island ,I was really bored whilst staying with these so-called high end/priced Hotels with low end value, and accidentally directed to this place by a "Tuk-Tuk" Driver. To my amaze this place was a true beauty on a small hilltop, not far from the Gampola Town, yet you feel you are away from all the hustle and bustle. As you enter you see an immaculately laid garden over looking the famous mountain range where a Buddhist Temple on the top is clearly visible and with an unsurpassed vista. Garden is filled with many trees including famous "Breadfruit,Jackfruit ,Durian Trees" which you can only find in these tropical countries. We were quickly greeted by Q and his lovely wife Lala and gave us a cold King Coconut drink to quench our thirst. The Rooms were spacious and clean and very well kept and quite comfortable. There was no formal check-in except got down our info' after initial greetings. There was a helper who quickly got our luggage to our room. I really like this sort of an informal setting as we are on a holiday away from all the formalities. Following morning we had a hearty breakfast comprised of traditional food and home grown fruits like Papaya and Sweet Plantains. As we were tired of traveling we opted to stay around Gampola Town and visited the famous Buddhist Temple on top of the Mountain. Q was our guide and he explained in detail about the history of the place which was quite fascinating, "era of the Kings". Q been a Planter in his heydays worked in the Tea Estate sector for many years is an interesting person to talk to and with a wealth of information and facts, man with a true sense of hospitality, meeting this couple was a highlight of my stay. The room price includes the breakfast and they are willing to provide additional meals at a reasonable cost also Lala gave me a Traditional Cooking lesson also offered an Aurvedic Oil massage from a local "masseur" for a nominal fee, which was a total body rejuvenator. At the end of my stay I truly got a full dose of " Sri Lankan " hospitality and never felt like I was a paying guest. Thank you Lala and Q for your wonderful hospitality.
