Fuentes de Abajo

This "Casa Rural" has an excellent situation in the pretty village of San Esteban de la Sierra. This is located in a most delightful corner of Extremadura in the hills of the Sierra de Francia. Joaquin Berrocal's family has owned this guest house for many years. He offers a wonderful welcome, has great knowledge of the area which he will gladly share with you, and does everything he can to give his guests an excellent stay. He is a very conscientious, kind and friendly host. This attractively modernised house has just a few but nice rooms with balcony and private bathroom and views of the village and/or surrounding hills. Breakfast is simple but good, and people who stay 3 nights or more get a free welcome snack supper the first evening. This is a tradition of the house. For lunch and dinner, Joaquin has an arrangement with the one and only village restaurant run by a friendly family which does good, cheap meals (€10 per head in 2011). San Esteban is a very good walking base, and also a fine base for excursions to La Alberca (historic village) and any number of other villages and splendid countryside on all sides. I stayed there for three nights and would have liked to have remained for several days longer. Fuentes de Abajo represents excellent value for money and is highly recommended.
