Fantastic place with great personal attention. The hostess was definitely the mostess providing us with a killer breakfast and a great Roman dinner in line with the area we were staying in. The rooms were very comfortable and each one with its own theme. Highly recommended!

We visited for three days in March to see Las Médulas and to discover El Bierzo. We were thrilled in every way by our stay - the charming and knowledgeable welcome of our host, the comfort of the room, the delicious and copious food (with dishes inspired by local cuisine and ancient cookbooks), and the fascinating area. Reflecting back on the travels we have taken all over Spain, the Casa Rurale of O Palleiro do Pe do Forno is a real gem.

We loved our stay at Isabel's wonderful Casa Rural in Orellan, near Las Medulas (the Roman goldmines which have created an amazing landscape). Isabel offered caring personal service and lovely food including a delicious venison casserole.  Everything about the place shows imagination and attention to detail.  We had an attractively and individually decorated bedroom, with comfortable bed, and slept well. There was mosquito protection at the window, allowing the window to be open.

My wife and I stopped to see Las Médulas on our way to Galicia last month, and she booked us at O Palleiro do Pe do Forno for two night in the pueblo of Orellán. What a treat! Isabel, as many of the other reviews state, is a fantastic host and an excellent cook. She was totally attentive, extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable abot everything to do in the area. We like hiking, and she charted out a great day's hike in and around the surreal landscape of the orange peaks of Las Médulas. When we left, she recommended a nearby castle on our way to Galicia. Meals were great, as was the local wine (and a bit of orujo as well). I would highly recommend the whole experience, and hope to return to that area (so much we didn't see) and stay again at Isabel's lovely inn.

Normally had a reservation here but we had to cancel last minute because of the passing away of my girlfriends grandmother. They were very understanding and didn’t charge us despite of the last minute cancellation. We will definitely stay here when we plan a new trip in this region. Thank you so much, from Belgium ❤️

We stayed at the O Palleiro do Pe do Forno in Orellan for 1-night in mid-June (€58). While our GPS had a hard time locating the casa rural, it is easy to find – just follow the signs to the Orellan Mirador, drive through town and look for the Palleiro's sign about 1 km before the mirador parking lot. Sitting above the road, the casa had two 2-floor stone buildings, one with the reception & bar with the restaurant above and a patio with tables in front, the other with the six guest rooms.

Our ground floor room was compact, simple and well-maintained, furnished with a queen bed & side tables, chair & old chest, a couple of small knick-knack tables, and a built-in closet for clothes & luggage. It had air conditioning, a godsend from the 35 degree heat in mid-June, but no mini-refrigerator, TV, or safe. The bathroom had a pedestal sink with a wall-mounted shelf and a large shower stall with a rainfall shower head.

We dined at the casa's restaurant – about €20 each for a shared appetizer, bottle of wine, and two entrees from a great menu of both regional cuisine and Roman dishes that the owner had researched from ancient texts of Epicurius and others. Isobel was a perfect host, speaking both English & French, friendly and willing to explain anything we wanted to know about the area.

There did not appear to be other dining options in Orellan – in fact, if you blinked, you would miss the town – but there were other restaurants in Las Medulas about 5 km away. 

Overall, a pleasant, simple, comfortable stay with great food that you wouldn't expect in an out-of-the-way location. Good value for a very modest price, it made a good base for visiting the Roman mines at Las Medulas.

Everything was great until we found bedbugs in the bedroom. At first the room was looking clean but we woke up in the middle of the nigth, and there was lots of bedbugs...seriously lots of them, in the bed, in the walls, in the floor...it was terrifying. We were traveling with a 11 month baby and we got really preocupied and left the room to sleep in the car. As if it were not enough, when we told the lady in reception (Isabel) she treated us really bad and was not even capable of apologize. I was never so badly treated...unbelievable...I dont recomend this place to anyone. I guess if you're lucky and everything goes ok, you have a nice experience, but if you have any kind of problem you will just be mistreated. Not the type of situation you want in you hollidays. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!
