Pensión Palacio

Me and my partner stayed in the double room with private bathroom and we really enjoyed our stay. Upon seeing other reviews we were quite anxious when arriving. Our worries were quickly dismissed upon arrival. The staff were extremely friendly throughout our visit, we found a particular gentleman to be very accommodating and talkative and every time we bumped into him he always struck up a conversation (didn’t catch his name but we think he was the owner, dark haired man). The room was lovely and very colourful, with a private bathroom with shower and a balcony which viewed the street outside which was beautiful. There was linen which is an extra charge and complimentary shampoo conditioner and soap. Also had a television, and 2 fans. In the reception area they also have a fridge that sells estrella and water for 1 Euro. We didn’t have any issues with noise like other reviewers had, we had a very good sleep all 3 nights we were there. You have a key for the bottom door then upstairs before you enter the hostel there are 2 bells which are a day bell and a night bell so not loud at all, both are clearly signposted. We also felt safe here as it’s upstairs off the road with bells to press for entry and you have to show keys to prove you’re a guest and no visitors are allowed. The location was also brilliant, a short walk from the harbour and the beach which is situated just behind the hostel approx 10 min walk. As you exit the hotel the gothic quarter is just in front. Food places near by we would recommend are Milk, The Benedict and La Salon. There is also a metro stop a short walk away ‘Barceloneta’ and there is a bus stop to the right of the hostel. While this was a hostel as we had a private room it was like a hotel room with 10 minute showers which to be honest we didn’t find a problem at all. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s a hostel we saved a lot of money by having what we deemed a basic hotel room in a really good location where the average price is +400 euros for 3 nights. As for other reviewers stating “rules everywhere must comply” etc. There’s a a4 sheet of ‘rules’ behind the welcome desk, and a a4 sheet in your room, as well as a sheet in the bathroom saying only flush toilet paper down. Hardly a nazi regime. However, if you aren’t good with stairs this isn’t the hostel/hotel for you as there are 2 flights of stairs to get to the entrance. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stop here again!
