H&AP Rural Merrutxu

After travelling around Northern Spain and Portugal for some 11 days or so, and covering around 1200 miles, we needed a rest. With nothing booked before our return ferry, we searched Booking.com and found this hotel/guesthouse, apparently offering what we were looking for - comfortable accommodation, solitude, peace and quiet, and just being away from it all. We needed a rest before going home! It's turned out to be everything we wanted. A one bedroom apartment on the first floor, with fridge, hob, microwave, utensils etc., etc. Very comfortable with plenty of room. It's also a working winery offering (according to my wife) a superb dry white wine, a few bottles of which will be returning to the UK with us. Alcohol aside, this place is ideal for some solitude. Breakfast is offered (at very reasonable extra cost) although we did not partake as we bought supplies at a supermarket in Gernika, some 20 minutes drive away. This is an isolated location. Our satnav got us here fine initially, but then got us up and down country lanes, tracks, private roads and all sorts when we returned from Gernika. We were lost for about an hour and made it back more by luck than judgement. Our host are excellent. There if needed but not a constant presence. Breakfast is offered in a dining room/ TV lounge with plenty of space. Beds are comfortable. Scenery is magnificent. All in all, could not be better, and really good value for money - the wine is only €6 a bottle!
