Nice place to stay. Clean spacious room. Right on the camino. Shower is tiny though. A suggestion : a jug to boil water for tea and coffee would be better than having to ask for it. Just up the road is a nice bar cafe with good food Nd ice creams. In a nice little village

Nice and clean

Our host was pleasant and our room was comfortable and clean.  The close proximity to other houses and tractors and dogs could be a bit noisy but it was acceptable accommodation for the camino. The nearby bar and restaurant Bar Castro was pleasant and the food good and great value - a menu de dia including a bottle of vino tinto for 10 euro.

Oveŕnight on the camino

This accommodation was conveniently located on the Camino and seemed reasonably priced, but we soon realized other venues we had stayed in offered much greater value at the same rate. It was clean enough and looked alright from the outside, but very tired and needing some paint and upgrading inside. There was a strange, ancient wooden door outside our room in the corridor and an empty alcove inside the room with a spare blanket placed on the floor. The beds were comfortable enough with clean linens and the bathroom was clean as well. It was pretty basic, though - half empty hotel shampoos and soaps were on the shelf for our use (left behind by other guests, I suppose) in addition to the regular soap provided with the room - very strange. The hostess was a pleasant woman and she provided clothespins so we could hang our laundry to dry on a line outside. There was one bar/restaurant in the town; dinner is served with a reservation and it was good. We had a street-level room, and at 2:30 a.m. we heard strange scraping noises right outside our window that were a bit disconcerting - it seemed someone was out there but we weren't sure what was going on, a bit creepy. I wouldn't say not to stay here - it is in a convenient place on the Camino where there isn't much else, and the hostess is nice, and it was clean, but if you do stay keep your expectations realistic and be prepared for a tired, very basic room that is in need of some TLC.

Convenient location but tired accommodation

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in May whilst walking the Camino. It was easy to find and is situated right on the Camino Trail, with pilgrims walking past the front door.

As we were travelling with friends, there was a big mix up with their booking at this hotel and they ended up going somewhere else, which the owners of Casa Maruja found for them 2 kilometres up the trail. Their booking was confirmed up until two days before we arrived, when the hotel realised the over booking. Not good enough as it left them stranded. 

The lady manager could not speak English and it was very hard to communicate with her. She had to get another male person to interpret our conversation.

This hotel is very, very basic. It had 2 twin rooms with an en-suite and a twin and single room with a shared bathroom. There is no facility to have any meals here. But a nice cafe is 30 metres up the hill.

Our room was the bigger of the two twin rooms with en-suite. It had two twin beds, two small chairs, a small round table and two side tables. There were no bedside lamps (we had to ask for one), no TV and no cupboard, but there were 3 hooks on the walk and a small heater, which barely warmed the room up.

There was a coffee machine in the foyer which did not work, and the hot water tap on our bathroom sink kept spluttering when you turned it on.

Soap in the bathroom had been used by previous guests and the water out of the tap was cloudy.

Next morning, my shower was warm for about 3 minutes then went cold and that was the end of the “hot” water! I had to rinse my suds off under cold water and my wife didn’t even get the chance to have a shower!

The bed was warm but sagged in the middle.

There was noise from the owners and other guests at night as well as local dogs barking throughout the night.

Next morning, there was nobody at the front desk to complain to. The reception/foyer area was deserted. I am sure they do this to avoid angry customers.

Wifi was slow and unreliable. 

We paid 39 euro for our night, which is more expensive and a lot lesser standard to other hotels we stayed in along the way.

We would not stay here again and do not recommend it.

Worst Hotel Ever

I booked a deluxe double. The bed was very tiny , in a tiny room on the busy Camino de Santiago. If peregrinos weren’t waking me up , then tractors, machine work and barking dogs were. It’s not a Pension. It’s a step up from an albergue. Keep walking. Don’t stay here.And not only that the owner turned the internet and electricity off at 8.30am. I laughed, then I was stunned, then I got angry and demanded she put it back on so I could dress the blisters on my feet. Very poor.
