Casa La Mercedes

On arriving in Ballobar exhausted from a hard day cycling the town people provided hospitality before we found Casa La Mercedes. Our host was exceptional and although a language barrier was quick to google translate. The accommodation was clean,new,fresh and very comfortable. Fully equipped kitchen. If you are driving and can bring your own groceries you could cook up a storm. Breakfast was fit for a king and certainly provided us with more than enough fuel for the day. Certainly recommend and value for money.

Ballobar is a small place, tucked away from the world somewhat. The hotel was recommended to me by a friend and I haven't been disappointed. I arrived just after 17.00, but the hotel was closed and the phone wasn't answered. After about half an hour of waiting, I decided to ask a passer-by when it would open. In these parts of Spain English isn't a priority, but she took me to a shop where the owner of the hotel lived. He had fallen asleep in front of the TV (it was a hot day). We walked back to the hotel together and  the check-in went smoothly. Despite the language barrier, the owner was very helpful, providing directions for the 3 (!) restaurants in the village and doing a full tour of the rooms. The room was spacious and the bathroom very much so! Both were clean. Breakfast in the morning was a pleasant surprise. Luxurious, with fresh coffee and fruit. More than I could eat. The surroundings of Ballobar provide some excellent birding, which is why I stayed here in the first place.
