54 reviewsMantasaly was an unexpected surprise. It takes about 45 minutes to drive there from Diego with the last part of the trip being sand track roads not well marked. If we hadn’t had a local driver I would have gotten lost. The resort is perched on the Indian Ocean side of the northeast tip of Madagascar. Although its prime reason for being is the wind kite surfing, we did not do that. Our cabin was about a 3-minute walk from the main lodge. The cabin, bed, linens, shower, air conditioning and lay-out were sublime. The included continental breakfasts were delicious. The beach is more amenable to the wind sports than swimming, but the hotel pool is large, deep and very relaxing. We especially enjoyed the lookout tower built over the water tank, where watched sun sets and the uncluttered starry Southern-hemisphere sky. The resort hosts were a lively Romanian couple who made you feel welcome. The Malagasy staff was superb. The octopus salad was the best in Madagascar.
