46 reviewsWe chose the Palazzo Mattei as a half way point, overnight stay, in our two day trip by car from Lecce returning to Burgundy. We were also looking for something close to San Leo which we visited the following morning. The Palazzo Mattei was a wonderful, off the beaten tourist track experience. Travelling the small roads to Novafeltria may leave you wondering what you are doing, but the diversion was definitely worth it. The palazzo is in the center of Novafeltria and is being restored by the owner, an architect who fell in love with the building and is now renovating the property. There are currently three rooms in the main building. The "rooms" are more like small apartments, spacious and pleasant. The palazzo has its own gated parking area which is a major plus. There are two restaurants in the town, both within walking distance; the more renowned of the two, however, requires a reservation in advance as it was entirely reserved by locals when we arrived early evening. The breakfast was good, the owner was pleasant and very willing to talk about the building, her work and the town. All in all, a great stay. San Leo is just 10 to 15 minutes from Novafeltria.
