Fantastic
4666 reviewsThis was our third time staying at the Grand Hotel Aminta, Sorrento. We stayed in May 2025, May 2018 and May 2014. Our previous TripAdvisor reviews posted in 2018 and 2014 are very similar to our experience this year. Each time we stayed for two weeks. The hotel has been refurbished since our last visit, and it looks even better. It’s a gem. We selected the Aminta as a perfect base for trips to Napoli, Procida, Oplontis, Herculaneum, Pompeii, Positano, Amalfi, Capri and Sorrento. This year we hit the jackpot being in Sorrento when Napoli won the Italian football league - the Scudetto - with two fellow Scots in the team - Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. The Hotel has an excellent location on a hillside overlooking Sorrento with fantastic views across the Sorrento Peninsula and the Bay of Naples, with Vesuvius dominating the northern skyline. From our room and private balcony, we enjoyed spectacular views and colours from dawn – with the sun rising over the peninsula - to the evening with beautiful sunsets over Ischia and Procida to the west. All of the hotel staff are without exception friendly, helpful and efficient, with a good sense of humour. The hotel has excellent cuisine, with a mix of Italian and international food, well prepared and presented. The Public spaces and the Terrace all share glorious views to Sorrento, the Bay and Vesuvius. The Hotel grounds have a quiet and relaxing atmosphere – with a lovely pool and poolside facilities. Being situated up the hill from the town centre allows you to get some quiet relief from busy and lively Sorrento. The hotel has its own shuttle bus with a regular schedule and a friendly, safe driver. A pleasant alternative is an easy walk down an old footpath / roadway – Via Capodimonte – which passes through fields with olive trees, with lovely views to Sorrento and the Bay. It’s peaceful and quiet – apart from the occasional scooter flying past. It meets Via Capo, the main road into town, across from the Nube Argento Campsite. Best to do the walk down first so you get your bearings for the return. The walk up the hill keeps you fit... we’ve done it several times. The hotel has a range of clients including visitors from all over the world which makes for good socialising, if that’s your preference, but there are plenty places to chill out on your own. There were some families, but mainly couples. Our room was very pleasant, comfortable, with good facilities and well-kept by the staff. We had a lovely bedroom with a sea view balcony on the third floor overlooking the Terrace and Pool with beautiful views to the Bay and Vesuvius. (See notes above) We recommend it again. Perfect.
