Il Mulino di Valle Bed & Breakfast

We booked Il Mulino di Valle in May based on the photos of the old mill. We were expecting a quiet stay in the country around Modena. What we were not expecting were attentive and kind hosts who would make our stay in the area so memorable. Jess and Yan (and Big Boy) made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We booked four nights in the apartment, as we like our private space, and were greeted with a roaring fire in the fireplace. The unit was fitted with everything we needed, and Jess eagerly took our laundry when we asked for laundry facilities nearby. The breakfasts each morning consisted of local eggs, meats, cheeses and other assorted delicacies, as well as great conversation with the other couple staying. Jess grew up in the area, and was full of knowledge about what was going on in the area, that, as a traveler relying on the internet, would have no way of finding on our own. Jess recommended a local restaurant that was fantastic, as well as food festivals that were going on in the area, and a local winery where we spent over five hours with the owner and other guests sampling wine, meats and sharing stories. I was sad to learn that they will be leaving the mill shortly, but thrilled to learn that they will be starting a new venture in Canada, not far from where I live. These two are a wonderful couple, and are born to do this for a living. I do not over exaggerate when I state that meeting them, and experiencing their hospitality, was the real Italy for us during our three weeks.
