Portrait Milano - Lungarno Collection

This hotel is in a seminary built in 1565 that was converted to a luxury hotel. The property is back off the main city street by 40 meters or so and opens to a large courtyard known as the piazza, where we saw fashion shows, movie night, and piano recitals. On the first floor are various bars, restaurants and boutique shops - more about that later. We checked in and were shown to our room. The pictures from the Portrait website do not do the rooms justice. The designer touch makes you feel like you are staying at a very wealthy friend’s mansion. The linens, bathrooms, furniture, closets are all top notch fabrics, wood, and leather. It was one of the finest rooms we have ever stayed in. Breakfast buffet was included in a nice patio restaurant. Just off the piazza, The Beefbar Milano is the elegant seen and be seen restaurant for high end dining. The food and ambiance make it a hotspot for Milan. There is also another late night bar with live music (cant recall the name, but they serve champagne after midnight),. The staff were very accommodating and resourceful - they got us last minute tickets to the sold out Opera Norma at La Scala and a private tour (also sold out) to see the amazing fresco of the Last Supper. Advisable to make plans in advance but nice to know that the hotel has connections if you need them. The location is in walking distance of Milan’s famous shopping district Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. The La Scala Opera house was about a 1 kilometer walk. Beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. We hope to return soon.
