My partner and I stayed for six nights at Schloss Castel Pienzenau, a fascinating old building on the outskirts of Merano. The room was quite basic but spacious, clean and certainly did the job. Gardens are lovely and breakfast each morning was a tasty selection including locally grown fruit. Staff were very friendly and helpful, they were particularly accommodating of our bikes and bike kit which we were allowed to keep in the garage. The Bistro at Pienzenau is quite pricy (food smelled amazing though!) but the local Gasthof Tanner 5min walk down the road offers good value lunch/dinner options including an extensive pizza menu.
