Masseria Pepe

One of the most beautiful masserias we've stayed in during our trip through southern Italy! Stunning buildings, gorgeously arranged and lit, a very large pool and plenty of space to roam around on the farm. Gourmet breakfast in a beautifully decorated area or on the large terrace. Anna, the manager, was super helpful, responsive and hospitable! Easy access by car to the Campomarino dune beach nearby. 

Three weeks in Puglia and visiting Masseria Pepe was one of the highlights. Here's an overview of what I loved the most:

- staff: Pina and Vanessa were very welcoming and Pina took my friend and I on a tour of the property. Despite language barriers we learned a lot about the property and what grows in the area. She even gave us a little bag of fresh walnuts for our journey. 

- Property / accommodation: as I mentioned, the property is stunning with fruit and nut trees, including a fig tree poolside which you'd often find on the fabulous buffet breakfast. Our room was spacious and lovely, painted white with thoughtful decor accents which adding to its warmth. The small kitchen was helpful because there is no restaurant (besides breakfast) unless you book for a large group in advance. I would have liked to know where to take garbage out, since we self-catered a few evenings and our rubbish started to pile up. 

- Location - the proximity to beautiful beaches is great, although i would recommend having a car. It's pretty isolated (at least 8-10 minutes by car to the nearest town), although it is along a well-traveled road and you can sometimes hear road noise when lounging by the beautiful pool. Don't let this deter you, the property is lovely.
 
I would return to Masseria Pepe in a heartbeat. Next time I'll take advantage of the bike rental and be sure to book a few extra days to enjoy the nearby beaches. It was lovely.

Can't wait to return

There are some lovely positives to this masseria - nicely furnished & characteristic cottages all set around a nice size pool in a very peaceful and charming setting. However it felt slightly neglected by the management and the pool needs better maintenance (to remove the green tinge around the edges ). It also needs more sunbeds to accommodate the number of guests . Breakfast was a  let down - very little of it  and barely any choice of jams or marmalade ( which were all cheap sachets instead of good quality jars or even homemade.) Hardly any cereals  and only one type of bread . It was all rather limited (though the cakes and pastries were pretty good ) and they seemed reluctant to actually put anything out on the buffet table! Coffee wasn’t great either and came from a dispensing machine . In terms of our room , it lacked storage & the double bed though it looked lovely, creaked terribly which meant I had to stay absolutely still all night in order to sleep.  Overall I had a nice stay here and it is a lovely converted building but the place could be great if it was more carefully looked after and the breakfast was improved too .
