Agriturismo Masseria Aprile

MASSERIA APRILE was the perfect home-base for our explorations of Puglia. We had spent time in large cities earlier in our trip and were looking forward to the unique experience of staying in a Trullo on a Masseria in the countryside. What a beautiful countryside it was - green grass and wildflowers, stone fences, vineyards, olive trees, stone buildings and trulli. Every aspect of MASSERIA APRILE was thoughtfully and beautifully designed and cared for, respecting and preserving the history of the land, buildings, and family. We enjoyed exploring the far edges of the property and all the common areas - and meeting the donkeys and chickens as we explored. Each area told a story in items from the past that were displayed and signs that explained the history of certain buildings and areas. Fabio and Stefania went out of their way to answer all our questions and to share stories of how certain buildings and structures had been used in the past. It is obvious that the Aprile family has a deep love for this place and a desire to share the beautiful experience of this Masseria with others. As well as enjoying the amazing accommodations and the beauty of the property, we also very much appreciated the hospitality of the Aprile family. The breakfasts at MASSERIA APRILE were among the best breakfasts we've ever had. Fresh eggs, amazing cheeses from a neighbouring farm (buffalo mozzarella unlike any we had tried in our previous 2 weeks in Italy), a variety of homemade cakes made by Anna that we looked forward to every morning, a selection of meats, cut up fruits, cereals, wonderful breads and homemade jams and marmalade, tea, juices, and personally prepared cappuccinos. Anna and Stefania even brought out a Nutella cake with a candle and sang Happy Birthday to my son on his birthday! The Aprile family were also very helpful hosts - recommending a place for us to get a quick pizza dinner when we arrived late at night and providing information and suggestions about what towns to visit and how much to try to fit into one day. They were warm, kind and approachable. We easily visited many nearby towns including Locorotondo, Alberobello, Ostuni, Lecce, Martina Franca, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Trani and Bari. My son enjoyed jumping on the trampoline, seeing the donkeys, and walking into the forest to explore the playground area. Fabio also shared a tip that his voice would echo if he stood right in the centre of the circular stone area in the front of the Masseria - it was wild. We very much appreciated the opportunity to spend time at MASSERIA APRILE and would highly recommend it to others planning to visit Puglia. We just loved it!
