Vaccaria

We stayed just a few days in this beautifully restored monastery set in the rolling landscape of Umbria and wish we could have stayed longer. The accommodation is spacious and airy, very comfortable and with very high specification fittings down to the smallest detail. Food is served on a giant refectory table in an enormous dining room furnished with amazing antiques and curiosities. The menu is very extensive, varied and, best of all, very fresh and locally grown. Even the water from the monastery's own spring source is fantastic to drink. Vaccaria is in a great location for local exploration of the countryside, walking along country lanes and paths and seeing wildlife. It is also in a great location for exploring this part of Italy with good access to Gubbio in the north and Perugia and Assisi in the south. Mount Cucco and the surrounding natural park is within reach for a day trip and walks in the old woodlands and mountain ridges. John and Janice, the owners, are inspirational in their devotion to good spiritual and physical health and whether you join in the yoga or the after-dinner discussions or not, you will come away inspired and refreshed.
