Amelia O

I recently stayed at the Residenza Martin in Florence, Italy from February 16, 2024 to February 18,2024. I stayed there for two nights. I have visited Florence many times, but this was my first time staying in this part of town. This hotel is very easy to get to. When you exit the Train Station (Firenze S.M. Novella), look for the McDonalds across the street. Walk towards that McDonalds, and let the McD be towards your left. you will then make a left and walk straight. You will walk a little bit and then you will see your street on the right. Your street will have the market on it, you will see vendors on the street, selling bags and more, this is the only street you will see like this. When you make the right on this street, this hotel is on the RIGHT side of the street. When you book the hotel, and fill out the personal information that they require, they will send you the details that you need to enter the MAIN door, the hotel door, and your bedroom. There is no front desk, and it is not needed. After you enter the main door, you will walk up a few steps immediately, and the hotel/residence door is on the right. You will use a code to get the door to open. When the door open, you will be in an apartment style place, with a kitchen, living room, and locked rooms. The various rooms are used for guests, just like you are a guest. There are at least 3 rooms, and maybe even more, I did not walk through the whole place. My room was called “Singola” I believe. Everything I needed was in the room- a window, a comfortable bed, a desk, a minifridge, a place to hang my clothes, and a luggage rack, and many plugs and sufficient light. The temperature in the room was perfect. The actual room you sleep in is opened and closed with an actual key. I have travelled a lot, and personally, I like rooms that have ACTUAL keys, I feel safer in rooms with keys. Also, I like the fact that there is no key card that needs to go in a slot to control the electricity in the room, like other hotel rooms. For the singola room, it is important to note that the bathroom is NOT in your bedroom, like most hotel rooms. The bathroom is 10 footsteps away from your bedroom. When you open your bedroom door, you will walk towards the right, and see a bathroom that has a sign on it, indicating that it is your bathroom. Also, that bathroom is locked, and only opens up with the bedroom key that you have. That is good, the bathroom is secure, and only you can use it. The bathroom has a toilet, stand up shower, great hot water, a sink, trash can, and hair dryer. The bathroom has what you need. As a single woman travelling to Florence alone, I felt completely safe in this establishment. First, I was kind of scared that I had to walk out of my bedroom to use the bathroom, but it was fine. I felt safe, and even more safe because the place is equipped with security cameras, which WORK, in the common area, so that made me feel safe. The only time I ever saw other guests was when I was checking out- and I was there for 2 nights! Most people travel to Florence to explore the place, so many go to their hotels just to sleep, I feel. I liked this place because its literally like 6 minutes from the train station. I went to Sienna, and walked from this hotel to the bus station, bought tickets, and went to Sienna. As soon as I arrived at this hotel, after placing my bags in the room, I walked to the Accademia to see the statue of David. Walking there was VERY Easy. I also walked to the Uffizi Gallery, Florence Cathedral, and more. It was nice not having to rely on taxis to take me anywhere, I simply walked. Food wise, there is so much in walking distance- I went to an Indian restaurant close to the hotel, which was fantastic (Aroma of India), there were many great restaurants, and I even saw Korean restaurants and an Iranian restaurant (Tehran Ristorante). *** I can not forget to say this—this place, Residenza Martin, had an IRON!!! If you travel throughout Italy, the way I do, you will know that hotels/B&Bs in Italy NEVER HAVE IRONS!!! NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! But this place, had an ironing box in the common area.. this fact alone is a reason to stay here, because this is NOT common in Italian hotels.*** This place also had a common kitchen , in which there were dishes, utensils, a coffee machine, soap for the dishes, and a microwave. There was also a balcony if you wanted to utilize that. Summary: I definitely recommend this place. This host was quite sweet (Veronica) and always quick to respond to text messages/Whatsapp messages. This is a great location if you want to explore all that Florence has to offer. They utilize technology in a way which enhances your experience and safety. I will definitely continue to stay here when I visit Florence /Firenze in the future. Also, the place was affordable.
