Agriturismo Ca De Carlicchi

Christiana and Cesare gave my wife and myself a friendly welcome after our tiring but lovely car journey from Cortona, prolonged by the unreliable behaviour of our SatNav, anxious to take us to Poggioni rather than S. Leo Bastia from where the property is easily findable via a turn off in the village opposite the bar. Maybe half a mile on made- up road, then straight on at a confirmatory sign on the rougher track for maybe a mile when property is signposted on the right. English is spoken and everything was explained.Our four nights were spent in a small, well appointed room next to the lovely pool, and with beautiful views over the rolling Umbrian and Tuscan hills. Breakfast - we made our own - was taken in a communal day room with kitchen off where coffee could be brewed and the wherewithall retrieved from the 'fridge. Lunch or the evening meal was similarly arranged - no hardship in Italy where the finocchiona, the olives,the cheese, the peaches and the bread are so delicious.A lovely flowered terrace separates the day room from the pool. This is a lovely place in which to spend a few days or longer away from it all. Our hosts were most accommodating and friendly. Citta di Castello however, about half an hour away, proved enticing for its art, its churches and museums, (and one lovely meal!) although we drew a blank with the Municipal Library - (signposted but not there!). On a clear day, don't fail to visit Monte Santa Maria Tiberina. Ca' de Carlicchi is a wonderful centre in Umbria - just, a stay which my wife and I would love to repeat.
