Agriturismo Il Sasso

The owners are warm, friendly people, and that really makes the whole experience of staying at Il Sasso special. Apparently, they sometimes offer home-cooked meals (courtesy of Mama), but that wasn't possible during our stay and we ate at some of the superb local restaurants (and I mean that--there's good eating around here). The swimming pool is pleasant, and was really important given the intense heat (unusual, we were assured). Our room was small, but adequate for our needs. This is not a fancy place. There's no air conditioning (and as I said, it was brutally hot the first two days of our visit), and the room didn't have a fan, either. There is WiFi available, but the signal is weak, so don't expect to do much with it. So, if you need something deluxe, this probably isn't for you. Our family of three stayed at three different agriturismos on our trip, and this was my favorite, even beating out the one outside of Siena that cost three times as much (and was really more like a luxury hotel). I'd return in a minute, and plan to sometime in the future, absolutely. Anghiari is a wonderful town, and there are some other great, little (like, really little) hill towns to explore nearby. In terms of the restaurants, we got lucky on two of our three nights, but I think it's smart to make reservations in advance, wherever you end up. Oh, the breakfast was excellent, I thought. Eggs, cheese, meat, yoghurt, cereal/granola, cut up fruit, homemade cake, toast. No cappuccino available, but the coffee was good.
