Locanda Camilla

We happened to be passing through Campo di Giove, just exploring the park. It was easter weekend. We went to one restaurant to eat and they were already booked. We liked the look of the hotel and so went to eat there. The owner (Roberto) acted as our host and there were also eating the daughter and grandkids. Roberto makes you feel like you are part of the family. We had a white lasagna with cheese, sausage and mushrooms that Roberto harvested himself. The salumi fatti in casa were also delicious as an appetizer. We were split on wine so he opened a red DOCG and a white trebbiano of the region and he even shared the white. In the end we had some vegetable "orapi" which only grows wild in the mountains at certain heights and Robert also harvested this on long walks into the mountain as this is the only way. We had special abruzese liquir made of Genziana flowers. At the end of lunch he showed us and other lunch guests the rooms which were all newly built 7 years ago. The entire structure was "restructured" 7 years ago and is comprised of a few houses that used to exist on the site. its all beautifully done and could not be managed by nicer people. Campo di Giove is on the southern part of Mejella national park. We likely would return ONLY after finding Locanda Camilla. I think this may have been the best pranzo ever, mainly due to the gentilezza and hospitality of Roberto & Family. Thank you all. You made this a very special trip. :) Ciao tom
