Summer Hill Country House

Mike and Patsy are wonderful hosts and welcomed us into their beautiful Bed and Breakfast.  The bed was super comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding with fresh fruits, yoghurt, fresh orange juice and full cooked English Breakfast.  The surroundings are so peaceful and the garden has a summer house which guests can use, together with outdoor seating areas.

When we arrived we got a warm welcome from patsy, lovely lady and her dog.
She explained the COVID rules and showed us to our room. 
The house and our room was beautiful set in the rolling hills of the Lake District. 
About a mile walk to Hawkshead, patsy new of a short cut over some fields and through some trees. Gorgeous little village. Plenty of nice pubs and nice food. 
The breakfast was beautiful looking out onto their lovely gardens. Highly recommend this idyllic house. 

Everything about our stay was lovely.
This little Country B&B is perfect for a visit to the Lakes area.
Mike & Patsy the owners are the perfect hosts. Visiting anywhere during the current Covid crisis can prove to be challenging & stressful, Mike & Patsy took all the stress away. Yes the Guest house was spotlessly clean & there were quite a few protocols to follow to keep everyone safe , but we never felt anything other than comfortable.  
The room was cosy & when it wasn’t raining had a lovely view from the window. The breakfast menu was great & flexible to meet most anyone’s tastes & appetite. 
The Lakes climate did leave us wet during our visit, this was no problem to our excellent hosts who offered to dry our wet clothes.
I don’t think we could recommend Summer Hill enough.

I stayed at Summer Hill Country House for 3 nights. The house is ideally located for exploring the area and perfect if, like me, you are looking for peace and quiet. The gardens are beautiful and at the end of a long walk, I would recommend sitting in the summer garden for a well-deserved rest with a cup of tea, a piece of cake and a good book, watching over the fields and having the sheep for company. 

You can leave your car parked at the property and easily walk to the little village of Hawkhead for your evening meal. 

The room was lovely, cosy and so quiet! You will find a delicious homemade truffle waiting for you and I was very lucky to taste Patsy’s delicious and freshly made shortbread biscuits. Thank you again Patsy for sharing the recipe with me.
If like me, you always look forward to breakfast, you will not be disappointed. You will have a lot of options to choose from that will definitely set you up for the day (muesli, fresh fruits, toasts, yoghurts, English breakfast...). I would recommend the scrambled eggs, which are delicious. Thank you Patsy for giving me your secret. 

From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel very welcome. Patsy and Mike are the perfect hosts and are very knowledgeable of the area. They will recommend walks that you can do and provide maps and directions. You can start your stay by walking from the house to the Tarn Hows. This is a lovely circular walk and you can stop at a café called Chesters by the river for coffee and cakes or scones or more. 

I would definitely recommend Summer Hill Country House. I hope to be able to go back soon.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights. We felt slightly nervous as this was our first trip since lockdown. The owners Mike and Patsy put us at ease straight away. They were obviously following strict Covid 19 hygiene rules. We had to sanitise our hands on entrance to the country house. The room was immaculate and had been deep cleaned. Even the mattress and pillow protectors had been replaced for our stay. The house is beautiful and there were lovely finishing touches. Patsy’s homemade chocolates and shortbread were delicious. We were made to feel very special and had a warm welcome and stay. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and enjoyed a glass of wine sat in the garden in the evenings. We will be returning and would highly recommend it.

As part of my spring break, I enjoyed 3 days of excellent hospitality based at Summer Hill Country House.  After a delicious breakfast each morning, I was well placed to explore various parts of the neighbouring countryside such as Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest. And my cosy room helped to ensure a peaceful and relaxing sleep each night.  Summer Hill proved to be the ideal spring time destination!

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised to find we had made a great choice in staying at this B&B.  We are from the US and were doing a 2 week road trip around England and Wales so I randomly picked places to stay by using TripAdvisor.  The reviews were spot on for Patsy & Mike's B&B.  The house was beautiful, the room was very comfortable and the breakfasts were fantastic.  Patsy supplied us with maps for road trips so we knew where to go to see the best scenery.  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for 3 nights and would love to return if we're ever back in this area.

Mike and Patsy fully deserve the repeated 5 star ratings. We spent just under a week at Summer Hill in early September 2019. A lovely house in a stunning location. A great breakfast to start the day with Tarn Hows and Coniston within confortable walking distance. We suggest using the bus service which stops nearly outside the door. What a fantastic place. Came upon it whilst looking for a place to base ourselves for a bank holiday motorcycle tour of The Lakes. Located just outside the village of Hawkshead, it's run by Patsy & Mike who make you very welcome, get there on time and you'll be treated to coffee and cakes and a daily handmade chocolate. Both have a brilliant knowledg of the area, they helped us out with our route planning over the weekend. Rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable, Patsy cooks a mean breakfast along with a fruit/cereal/yoghurt choice. Well worth a visit.

Thiis an outstanding place to stay - everything is perfect - from the awe-inspiring views to the tasteful decor, the hospitality of Mike and Patsy and best of all the homemade cakes, chocolates and biscuits which appear magically in your room or are shared with you on arrival.  All details have been attended to and Summerhill is an atmospheric old house  immaculately clean and beautifully furnished.  Breakfast is served in a slate-floored dining room with a huge open fireplace and a wonderful view of the area.  The gardens are full of birds, butterflies and bright flowers.  The hosts are delightful and the house is well-situated for exploring the area.  Hawkshead is an easy drive of a few minutes away where we had two fantastic meals at The King's Head and you must visit the Hawkshead Relish shop selling the most delicious locally-produced chutneys, mustards, jams etc.  Thankyou for a great stay.  We would love to come back.
