I've just realised that I haven't yet posted a review following our stay in June !  My wife and I stayed for a week on a painting holiday and had an excellent time.  The accommodation proved to be first class, with superb food from Peter, in a wonderful location.  Catherine provided us with knowledgeable, relaxed tuition.in both her excellent studio and in the field on days out. We had a great week ! 


We had two stays at this most amazing B&B - 4 nights prior to going to a wedding venue then a single night after the wedding to venture further north.        Hosts Peter and Catherine were welcoming and received us warmly. Although we had booked two specific rooms, as they had no other guests expected we were allowed to choose. After unpacking they supplied tea and biscuits in the dining\lounge. Rooms were clean and tidy and bathrooms while smallish were perfectly adequate. After dinner at one of the local pubs they recommended we had a very good night's sleep. A very good cooked-to-order breakfast set us up for the day each and every day.

I booked to attend the week-long drawing/painting workshop several months ago and was greatly looking forward to my visit at Weston House - I was not disappointed! The guest house is run by Catherine and Peter, two very attentive and accommodating hosts. Apart from the main guest house, there is separate accommodation about a couple of hundred yards away - a self contained house with bedrooms, kitchen and living room on both the ground and first floor - all being newly refurbished to a very high standard.

The painting instruction, by Catherine, was very encouraging and helpful and I feel confident that I really benefited from her extensive expertise as a professional artist. The course was split between time in the art studio and two days out at nearby gardens - which provided a rich source of inspiration for painting. There were regular breaks throughout the day and the pace was leisurely but still afforded plenty of time to refine and complete any paintings you were working on.

Peter provided a diverse range of meals - all of which were thoroughly delicious and extremely well prepared. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the locality and was a mine of useful information. This is clearly a very well-run place. 

I recommend anyone considering a week-long break in Devon, combined with art instruction to look no further than Weston House. It was excellent in all respects.

My friend and I have just returned from a lovely 4 day painting holiday at Weston House with Catherine.   The food was lovely and prepared by Peter - we had varied evening meals - all very tasty.
Catherine was very encouraging with the art tuition and gave lots of helpful tips.  We had a lovely day out at Marwood Gardens where we were kindly driven by Peter.
There were 7 of us on the course and we all got in well together and had many laughs.
I would highly recommend Weston House and the painting courses and hope to return again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my art course with Catherine.  I brought everything but the kitchen sink as wasn't sure what I wanted to do.  I need not have bothered, as everything was provided.  On arrival I was offered refreshments.  Peter carried my stuff upstairs for me.  Catherine started the course by instructing us on the characteristics of trees, developing styles, and picture composition.  There was plenty of visual material to stimulate your imagination and books showing work by artists I hadn't come across before.  We had 11's, where Peter provided various teas or coffee, or fruit tea, so plenty of choice, and biscuits.  We did some preliminary sketches with charcoal, and Catherine suggested we have a little think about what we might like to create in the afternoon, and we broke for lunch.  Peter cooked a perfect leek and potato soup with all the trimmings; croutons, parmesan, and lovely homemade breads.  There was more if you wanted a second bowl.  We had gorgeous local speciality cheese and biscuits and fruit for dessert.  In the afternoon Catherine kept a beady eye on me, so I didn't go too off piste.  I learnt a lot on the day's course.  I sell my work, so the course is for all levels, from the amateur to professional.  I only wished it had lasted longer.  As hosts they are charming and they really do look after you.  I cannot recommend this enough.

I have just returned from a fantastic stay at Weston House for a week's painting holiday with Catherine and Peter.

High points for me ...
1.  Great welcome and lovely room with good facilities.
2.  Amazing food served in a friendly and relaxed manner.  
3.  Expert drawing and painting tuition from Catherine.

Overall my time in Weston House was full of learning and laughter and I would recommend a stay for anyone looking to explore and improve their artistic skills whilst enjoying top notch food in a relaxed environment.
