I was looking for a B&B when I came across Waves. The first alarm bell rang when the owner called to pass on detailed instructions on where to find it, and how to gain access. It was when I enquired about breakfast that she said breakfast is in the fridge and in a box in the room!

Access to Waves is via a wooden gate off a rather run down council run car park. The entrance is up a flight of stairs and the patio doors open into a communal lounge area. Our room was up a further flight of stairs in the eaves of the building, and head height is extremely limited in both the bedroom and the bathroom. 

The decor throughout is predominantly white, and has been tastefully furnished to provide a modern and tranquil environment. As well as head height the bathroom is compromised by the corner shower tray, I found it impossible to shower without banging my elbows on the shower door. 

Whilst the box and fridge are well stocked, it wasn’t the cooked breakfast that I had been expecting. And whilst it was replenished the next day the bin with all the rubbish from the previous morning wasn’t emptied. 

Give me a full English breakfast over a porridge pot and a banana anytime. 

More Airbnb than B&B

The reception from Bev was friendly and warm. The room we stayed in was small and tired looking. The bathroom was functional but needed attention. Noise levels were higher than we liked from the traffic, but we needed the windows open for coolness. Lovely patio area for us to eat breakfast. Coffee was good, breakfast hamper topped up everyday. 

The Nook room

I was looking for somewhere to stay in Padstow for the May Day celebrations and was having trouble finding anywhere open or at reasonable cost. I then came across "Waves Rooms" in St Merryn, just three miles out on the Newquay "B" road, what a great little find. St Merryn is just three miles from Padstow, it has a pub, a fish and chip shop good takeaways and is on a bus route. So if like me you want to leave your car at Waves and go into Padstow it's no problem. The bus stop is literally two minutes walk.  

The Lady that runs Waves is welcoming and helpful. The accommodation is based on three rooms, nicely appointed with the use of a shared lounge. There is no cooked breakfast available but you do get a breakfast pack including cereals, yogurts, fruit juice and fruit. There is a small fridge, tea and coffee is plentiful. The bedroom we had was small but cosy and clean with some nice touches, you could say the accommodation is "boutique." The shower room was of a good size with quality toiletries. 

The area is quite and handy for visiting other places in the area too. Parking is in a large carpark at the rear. There is a Thai and a Chinese takeaway in St Merryn also, the menus are in the lounge and they are situated just a few minutes walk away. You are welcome to use the plates an cutlery provided along with a microwave on the landing. There is a small outdoor terrace too with seating.

I would not hesitate to recommend. We had a very enjoyable stay.

Cosy and Quite

Room very small and very tired looking. Very clean. Description said parking available  but wasn't told by owner as to where  this free parking was. It certainly wasn't a continental breakfast as described. Rats need to be sorted . These live in roof space above the room named the cove. Wouldn't stay there again.

2 day break

Stayed here for two nights and was not disappointed! 'The Cove' room is comfortable and has its own en suite. Keys are kept in a padlocked box outside and on the day we were due to arrive Bev text us directions and the code. Bev was really helpful and always on hand by text if we needed anything. Great selection of breakfast items and fresh bottled milk and juices in the fridge, and tea and coffee facilities. Very impressed with the availability of both instant and ground coffee! Everything was spotless, and the room was cleaned up and bin emptied etc whilst we were out. There was a working TV in the room and magazines in the lounge area for relaxing. Pub downstairs does lovely ales and food, as well as live entertainment.
Only thing I would suggest would be slightly larger towels, but that wouldn't stop me giving 10/10!
Location is fab and we plan to stay again next year when we return. Many, many thanks to Bev for such a comfortable few nights away :)
