The hotel, provides all the requirements needed to enjoy what Oban can offer you. Clean rooms, outstanding views, friendly staff, good breakfast...Best relation quality/price to be found in the place (It is a bit outdated regarding decoration...But by far all the outstanding points highlighted before overpass that fact

Another fabulous stay at The Lancaster the staff are so welcoming and friendly and we look forward to our next visit in the near future. We can also recommend Cuan Mor and Rio restaurant. We have been to The Wee Wine Shop which was educational.

Once again we had a brilliant stay at The Lancaster,my friend Christine and I so enjoy the finer things in life and are very very well travelled BUT look past the dated decor and from our first stay many years ago until now we are treated as friends. All staff are kind, accommodating and professional and we love how they treat all visitors and there dogs. We enjoy our cooked breakfast and I have tried John's chilli in the past which I can recommend and very well priced. We are checking out now after 2 night's and we will book again for February next year. I do NOT agree with some comments it's borderline rude and we have to be mindful this is someone's livelyhood,so please be more thoughtful or spend your money going somewhere posher.

The hospitality and breakfast service has been superb and the hotel, right on the promenade but over to the north side enough to be peaceful, has tons of character and comfort. I will stay here again. Xx

Really enjoyed my stay here. Yes its not the most upmarket up to date place but its perfectly good. The staff and fellow customers were lovely. Dog friendly. Excellent value for money. Quiet clean and safe. Excellent location in Oban. Honestly dont know what folk are bleating about. Would return and would recommend.

Bearing in mind The Lancaster  IS   listed as a 2 star hotel, the service, food, safe parking (to accommodate a kayak on the car roof), dog friendliness were all excellent. The staff could not have tried harder to make us feel welcome and look after us.  The bar meal and breakfast were excellent.

I booked this on the day as Calmac cancelled my ferry. I had no expectations and hadn’t read any reviews but it was affordable, great location and accepted my dog. 
Now having read some reviews I think people are very unfair and unkind. Yes it is rather dated and tired in places, but most importantly it was very clean and welcoming. 
While having breakfast here I heard a rude guest giving staff a hard time when she politely asked him to put a mask on in the foyer – not an unreasonable request when there is a global pandemic on and it’s the law in Scotland  (I bet he’s the kind of guest who leaves a one star ‘rant’ review). The hospitality industry has been on its knees, they can’t offer services ‘as usual’, most places are understaffed, underpaid, overworked and have to do horrible jobs cleaning up after the likes of us, all with a smile on their faces. Give them a break. The staff here were very welcoming and friendly. Yes the place was dated and one or two minor things didn’t quite work, but how about looking at it as retro or shabby chic! (I haven’t seen a hairdryer or trouser press like these since the ‘80s he he).  Most importantly I found it very clean and my bed was surprisingly comfortable, food was fine and all hygienically presented, prices very good, and staff were lovely if you treated them with the respect they deserve. 
In my opinion it certainly doesn’t deserve so many one star reviews from unkind or arrogant people who just want a rant and don’t understand the industry or respect staff as fellow humans!  First world problems - get things in perspective. If you want five star facilities then pay for five star.

My friend and I so enjoy visiting Oban and we always stay at Lancaster Hotel. The views are amazing and it has been been so relaxing to be able to have breakfast in the dining room again. The staff are vigilant and always go that extra mile for us. We know Simone and Fiona so well now and these lovely ladies work so hard and that is one of the reasons why we keep returning. The Hotel may be dated but I'm my opinion I feel that the price is correct for the views alone. My friend and I can afford to go to a posher Hotel but we are very loyal and during covid restrictions the staff have been so responsible so big shout out to them as key workers.clap👏👏👏👏👏👏

Stayed for one night in this dog friendly hotel. 
Had minor problem in our room which was very quickly and efficiently dealt with and we settled for a good nights sleep. 
Was a refreshing change to find the hotel and rooms not standardised and clinical which a lot of hotels these days conform to yet it still  maintained comfort and cleanliness. Please keep the unique feel of this hotel and never modernise !
Staff were a joy and could not be more helpful. Breakfast was substantial with a good choice of menu and set us (and the dog !) up for the day. 
Due to COVID everything is running differently these days yet the staff were still cheery and helpful giving good suggestions for dog walks and other places to visit during our stay. 
Our only regret is that due to travel and work plans we could not stay a second night. 
We look forward to a return visit. 
10/10 for value for money. 


After reading all the reviews on this hotel I was very excited to stay here,I have a enthusiasm for 1960s/70s decor and furnishings. I have to say The Lancaster did not disappoint, the sundial clock in reception as I came in was the first little gem I spotted and all throughout the hotel leading to the room the curtains and carpets keep the theme going. The hotel must have been very well looked after in order to preserve the rooms and carpets as all are pristine considering they are vintage. The shower is fantastic, warm and good water pressure.... Again in keeping with the right decade 😅. I have never been anywhere with such well preserved 60s/70s vintage furnishings (other than my living room 😂). The staff were very helpful, bright and friendly on the phone and on the desk, would definitely stay again, please don't ever refurbish! It's a perfect time little time warp. Also the only hotel I've stayed in this week that matches my suitcase 😁😁😁.

I cannot understand the poor review balance

FABULOUS

This hotel is all about location, stunning views across the harbour and only five minute stroll into Oban town. The hotel is dated however we found it to clean and the only hotel we stayed in where the mattress didn’t give us back ache! 
The breakfast was lovely and well cooked fresh tasty ingredients. Staff all very friendly both to us and our dog. Would stay again, good value for money.

Best breakfast views ever

Couldn't fault our stay for 2 nights, excellent with the dog and made us feel welcome.  The staff are very friendly and helpful, good breakfast and even made a sausage the our dog.  No extras charged for dog or parking, unlike other hotels in the same vicinity.  Yes it needs a refurb, but the price they are charging for a room reflects that, the beds were clean and enough room to put the dogs bed.  The prices charged for food and drinks at the bar are very reasonable.  Would book this hotel again.

Good Budget Hotel

Manage your expectations. You get what you pay for. Yes the hotel is very dated with its decor. If you want a modern hotel, don't stay here. If you want a clean, comfortable hotel, with friendly staff and most importantly great coffee, then this is the place for you. 
Breakfast with a view of the harbour, plenty of parking (they have a car park at the back) 
Its cheap, it's nice, staff are lovely, it's in an excellent location. Who cares if the carpet looks like your gran's did in 1972

Wonderful for the price

Reviews on here are a bit harsh. Hotel was one of the cheapest anywhere in the area so didn't expect luxury. But I got a great night's sleep, friendly staff, amazing location and great breakfast all for a great price. I would certainly come back


Good value for money

Fabulous

Hotel very dated. Paper on ceiling of our room hanging off in places.  Door to bathroom could do with a clean or repaint. Floorboards very squeaky. Our room (8) was above the lounge and was quite noisy with noise from the lounge and road. Was a little concerned to see mouse bait box under the bed. 
In saying that bedding and towels were clean. Staff lovely, breakfast lovey.

Easter weekend 

Let’s start with the good . The view from this hotel is stunning, it doesn’t matter if your in your bedroom, the dining room or parts of the bar. 
The staff are absolutely diamonds and will do anything they can to help. 
The breakfast is preordered the night before which doesn’t suit everyone but we didn’t mind at all.  We both had the cooked breakfast which was excellent. Good quality tasty produce and not a spot of grease to be found.
Bad points .. .. the hotel is very tired. The bedrooms are poorly decorated and the beds are poor quality with paper thin mattresses . The shower is not much bigger than a telephone box and lots of bits coming away from the wall. The sinks seem to be mainly in the bedrooms.
Friday night seems to be sing along night which echoes round the bedrooms and no good if trying to sleep. Not sure if we would stay again , trying to decide if the good out weighs the bad. 

Good and bad points

Was worried when I read the reviews but wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It is stuck in a time warp but it was clean & the staff were super helpful & friendly. The rates they charge are very reasonable in comparison to others & for no extra charge we could bring our dog with us, got a room with a stunning view looking over the Bay & were able to park in front of the hotel. Breakfast was cooked to order which is a rarity these days & was very good. We also had an evening meal which although nothing special was perfectly fine & again was very reasonably priced. Great location minutes from the centre on a quiet road.
