Small is beautiful certainly applies to this Hotel . Beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean and Covid safe . From the minute we arrived absolutely nothing was a problem to the delightful Nic and Andrea . Food was delicious and beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Suggestions for places to visit were forthcoming and we had a most pleasant 3 night stay . Would most definitely recommend anyone looking to explore Dumfries and Galloway to spend a few days here . We would certainly love to return and explore more of the area .

Wow, what a little gem of a place. Not knowing the area at all, we fortuitously found Rowallan Guest House to base ourselves from for our cycling/walking holiday. 

The Guest House has clearly been restored to it's former glorious state since Nicolas and Andrea have taken over, with the attention to detail on it's decor, it really is second to none. The bedroom (no.2) was again tastefully decorated and had everything needed to make our 7 night stay very comfortable.

From the moment we arrived we were very attentively looked after by Nic and Andrea and nothing was too much for them. We were able to safely store our bikes which as cyclists is very reassuring.

Breakfast consisted of a range of buffet choices; cereals, granola, fresh fruit, and yoghurts, followed by an extensive choice of hot foods catering for all types of eaters, meat, vegetarian and vegan.  I particularly liked the avocado and poached eggs on toast and eggs Florentine. Another great point was the fact that we could choose to have an evening meal and drinks here. Again the food was fantastic from the set menu, with an offering of a daily special. Andrea, we think you make the most amazing soups as well as those delicious mains and puddings. Nothing disappointed in the food department at all which is why we ate here on four of our evenings. 

What set this guest house apart from others previously visited, is the personable repertoire from the hosts who clearly work well as a duo/team. Nic who has first class banter, made us laugh on a daily basis. We shall miss that!

From the moment we arrived at Rowallan we were treated with the upmost hospitality and warmth. Nic greeted us as we exited the car and showed us around the beautifully refurbished Victorian villa, and onward to our room. The decor was tasteful as well as surprisingly airy in places, and everything was spotless. We decided to dine there that evening, and enjoyed sitting and chatting with Nic and Andrea (whose knowledge of the local area was invaluable) in the lounge, before moving onto the really gorgeous dining room. The food was excellent, and we thought very reasonably priced (the menu and cooking were equally good at breakfast). 

Nicolas and Andrea have clearly put a lot of work into the venture and it must be said they are wonderfully personable hosts (which appears to be a dying art in many places). We would highly recommend Rowallan to anyone staying around the Galloway area.

I am so glad we stayed here. Andrea and Nic are really friendly and made us feel so welcome. It felt like nothing was too much for them. Excellent breakfast, personal service. In a quiet location within easy walk of town centre. 
We ate here during our stay and the food was plentiful, hot and tasty. Andrea is an amazing cook and Nic covers front of house with a smile and a laugh.

The owners Nicholas and Andrea have fully renovated a large Victorian property in Newton Stewart and everything has been done to a very high standard, retaining the character of the property but with all modern convenience. Rooms are large and airy and beds comfortable with top quality bedding. We heard no noise at all from other guests, probably because of the solid Victorian walls, and we slept exceptionally well. Breakfast is excellent with a range of cereals etc and a good choice of hot food, all cooked individually for guests so there is none of that congealed bacon in food warmers so common in chain hotels! The egg benedict was beautifully cooked. There is a comfortable lounge bar for sitting and a pleasant garden.
Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts who were helpful in suggesting places to visit during our short stay. When I rang in advance to book an evening meal on our first night I happened to enquire whether there was an electric charging point nearby for our car. When we arrived not only had they found the nearest one (10 minutes walk away) but they had also been to check that it was working. The hotel is situated in a quiet area and while Newton Stewart itself doesn't have a lot to offer, the area around is stunning.We had a lovely stay and felt very relaxed afterwards.

We stayed here for a night unexpectedly because our car broke down and we were so pleasantly surprised. The couple who runs the inn is so warm and friendly, their hospitality made the experience reminiscent of staying over at family’s house. Their specially prepared breakfast was delightful, and it was an all around pleasure to stay there. If you’re ever in the area, I would strongly recommend it.

From booking to leaving Nic and Andrea were helpful, friendly and genuinely concerned for our guest experience and I suspect this would be the case without a pandemic but was heightened because of it. The house itself is fabulous and the rooms are comfortable, quiet and a high standard and whilst only a couple of minutes away from the centre of the town are surprisingly quiet. Above all this, though, is the quality of the dining which I cannot praise highly enough and managed to pinch a couple of recipes from Andrea to which I hope I can do justice.
A thoroughly delightful stay and a place and a couple I can't recommend highly enough.

We had an overnight stay at Rowallan, while cycling around the area. Our hosts Andrea and Nicolas, were so very helpful from even before we arrived, allowing us to park our car early while we went for a cycle and confirming they could accommodate vegan options for both breakfast and an evening meal if we wished that option.
Based on the vegan suggestions for dinner from Andrea we decided to eat there too, and what a great decision that was. The mushroom starter was fully flavour some and seasoned perfectly. For main, Andrea had prepared home made vegan ravioli which again was bursting with flavour and an excellent dish. The whole time Nic was a prefect, attentive host and checked regularly and confirmed that everything was vegan. We thoroughly enjoyed a great meal with a wonderfully charming host.
Breakfast was also a delight with again a full vegan version scottish breakfast. 
Nic and Andrea are great at accommodating vegans, but by the looks of the other plates the non vegan meals and breakfasts looked great too.
Our room was very charming with ample space and a great shower room. It was beautifully clean, with good facilities, tea, coffee, TV, WiFi etc.
Nic was also very gracious in allowing us to keep our car parked in their spacious car park after we checked out so we could enjoy another cycle along the river. 
Great location and lovely hosts, thoroughly recommend. 

From the second we arrived we were treated like friends. Nicholas greeted us at the door and this was just the beginning of how he, and his wife Andrea, went above and beyond during our stay. 
The breakfasts and evening meals were delicious. My husband is a vegetarian and Andrea made sure he had choice and variety for his every meal. On our last evening,  Nicholas went to the effort of lighting some candles at our dining table. He also played music he knew we liked. 
The lounge and bar was gorgeous with beautiful decor and an open fire. While we were sitting in there, we were given helpful advice about where to visit in the local area. 
The room was very comfortable, stylish and spotlessly clean. 
The arrangements to combat COVID were clear and clearly taken seriously. I felt very safe. 
We will definitely visit again. 

My daughter booked our stay at the Rowallan Guest House for a weekend away in Dumfries and Galloway. It could not have been more successful. Anglo French owners Nic and Andrea are perfect hosts, Nic retains his French Gallic charm and is very funny with his banter and Andrea is the perfect foil to her husband as well as being a wonderful cook. We stayed three nights. All the rooms are superbly decorated (think William Morris wallpaper) and all have en suites. There is a comfortable lounge bar and separate dining room. Breakfast was first class with a great selection from full Scottish, eggs every which way to scotch pancakes with maple syrup. Dinner was beautifully cooked and a wide choice with a special on Friday and Saturday. Wthoroughly enjoyed our stay, Nic and Andrea were great hosts with the perfect mix of fun and professionalism. We would highly recommend Rowallan Guest House and would definitely return again.
