What a delight!! We stayed at The Cow as a group of friends, gorgeous boutique hotel with lush bedroom decor and crisp fresh bed linen and the most comfy bed and pillows. Discovering a golden triangle of 3 pubs The Cow where we stayed and had the best breakfast, a delightful walk around the area before lunch in The Bluebell (what a pizza!), back for a refresh and onwards to a fine dining evening the Horseshoes… all within a couple of miles of each other. Lovely walks and stately homes and gardens to visit. And these 3 gems of gastro and lush flavour made for a delightful couple of days. Great staff and service throughout. Highly recommend.

We stayed for 2 nights in May for a wedding in Grangefields. We received a lovely welcome, shown to our room and we had a table for dinner booked.
The room was spacious and light. A little stuffy on the hottest day of the year, but we only used it to get ready and sleep. The bed was comfy, we had a fridge, huge TV, hairdryer, Molten Brown mini toiletries and huge fluffy towels.
The room was spotlessly clean.
Nespresso coffee machine was a nice touch.
The staff offered a room clean after 1 night, we just got clean cups, but it is offered if needed.
Breakfast was included, hot to order/continental.
Definitely a treat and would highly recommend.
3pm check in, 11am check out.

We stayed with our small dog for two nights in Feb 2024 in ground floor room 3. Everything was excellent. The room was clean and the bed comfy. Having the ground floor meant we had access to the outside for us and our dog without going through the bar. The village is quiet and dog walking easy. We had dinner and breakfast both days and they were all very good. (We were able to dine with our dog under the table). Staff were friendly and helpful. It was easy to visit Bakewell, Buxton and Ashbourne. Recommended.

Lovely little place hidden away from the hustle and bustle. We planned on taking a walk but in the end we didn't leave the hotel. Great food. Good wine list. Beautiful room and Molton Brown toiletries always impress me. 
I'm pretty sure we will be back.

If you are nervous to stay in a "Pub with rooms" this is the place for you!  It's really lovely!  Great staff & service.  the rooms are really nice (We stayed in Room 5 on the ground floor which overlooked the herb garden)  There was fresh milk in the fridge if you wanted to make a cuppa, the bed was super comfy, great shower and the whole place was spotless.  They did not offer dining one Mondays & Tuesdays whilst we were there (I believe they will be from Mid-April 2022), but they did arrange a taxi to and from their sister property The Bluebell.

Beautiful little pub and hotel, really peaceful and well set up. The people running this place are so welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful when I showed up after a long drive! I stayed in room 12 and the double aspect views were great.

Stayed here for 1 night, amazing pub, the staff and managements couldn’t do anymore to help. The restaurant is closed on an evening at present,  but the Cow have laid on a free taxi (converted black cab)  to take guest to two neighbouring sister pubs of your choose, amazing thought in the current climate. Picked up and dropped off at times that suit you, this made our stay even nicer, as experienced two gorgeous public house/restaurants in the one night. Beautiful rooms and amazing brekkie, will defo visit again,

Rustic pub/restaurant with rooms in a lovely Village, unfortunately the restaurant wasn't open for a meal that evening. Our room was quirky, comfortable & spacious with a furnished patio, the beamed pub retained all the character of a country inn.  Our English Breakfast was generous, freshly cooked to perfection. We would definitely recommend.

We booked this as a stopover on our way home from Yorkshire.It was a Sawdays recommendation so I expected it to be good but the accomodation,staff,service and food all exceeded my expectations.
100% recommendation!!!

We were recommended this boutique inn by friends who have stayed there  and were not disappointed.
Lovely room in the eves with a very comfortable bed ,and  great ensuite bathroom with super shower.
Restaurant was excellent, great food and great service
Very interesting and different style of menu featuring among other dishes 'small plates' (mini tapas ) suitable for vegetarians, five shared proved ample for the two of us. Good selection of ales and gins and a good wine list
Breakfast was exceptionally good on both days of our stay
We also had Sunday lunch with friends, 3 of us opted for the roast less meat and our fourth enjoyed roast lamb. First class  
Wonderful ambiance, with some interesting paintings of cows and horses by Eunice Friend. Wonderful, welcoming service throughout our stay. Highly recommended

Beautiful stay for 2 nights

Excellent Winter Break

Fantastic pub with rooms and amazing food.

Our room was closest to the bar which worried us a little on arrival but somehow (maybe the heavyweight door!) we weren’t disturbed by noise at all really which was a great relief.

The room was spacious with a little outside space which was nice and quality fixtures and fittings - we were pleasantly surprised when it was cleaned after our first night (we stayed for two nights).

The bar/restaurant has a lovely cosy, traditional feel.

Service was good but a few times we were left standing at the bar twiddling our thumbs - much better to tell customers you’ll be with them shortly rather than leave them standing there while you’re finishing what you’re doing.

The food was delicious - loved the warm bread and butter too. The only slight disappointment was the cheese board which was a bit flavourless and the crackers weren’t great and weren’t to our taste.

Our waitress forgot our table water twice and eventually brought it out after our mains - I admire staff that don’t write anything down but when things get forgotten it can be annoying.

There was a pretty severe storm while we were there and the the pub suffered some water ingress but the staff weren’t phased by it at all and were very professional in carrying on as though nothing has happened when some of the lights went out.

My husband was bitterly disappointed with the lack of ale on offer - being as it’s so popular at the moment it was disappointing that they didn’t have more on offer. 

All in all a lovely stay and with a few improvements would be 5 stars.

We enjoyed a lovely stay and was given a very warm welcome on arrival. Our room was comfortable with a lovely bed and excellent shower. The towels were very good and the molton brown accessories are a nice touch.
The village is quiet so you get a good nights sleep and there is parking both at the pub and close by if busy.
The only slight disappointment where there was just one waiter who seemed to be stretched. We both asked for  a starter of one cereal and one fruit. My wife's fruit came and was put on the table and then he rushed off. We thought he would bring mine but never did and disappeared before he came back with the hot food. I said I had not got my cereal and he said I did not order it despite him repeating our order back. He then said he could get it now but as my wife had finished and the hot food was here we said it was ok.
Now the meal the previous night was superb however the bacon was not well cooked and the eggs overdone both in the scrambled and fried cases so I think they were just having a bad day.
We also could not get any more tea or coffee so we just left it.
A slightly disappointing end to a stay in what is a lovely country pub.

Lovely Overnight Stay

We would really recommend the Cow. 
The rooms have been decorated beautifully and make for a really calm and chilled atmosphere - they come with a dressing gown, Molton Brown lotions, coffee machine and a selection of tea’s.
The food menu is small but perfectly formed with a tasty array of foods - highly recommend the Sweet Potato & flat bread hummus. The fish and chips were also great! 
Breakfast is a relaxed atmosphere with a choice of continental and cooked. 
There are fantastic walking routes around the array without you having to drive anywhere + a short drive from Bakewell. 
For anyone wanting to escape the city and have a relaxing weekend this is the perfect spot to do so!

Relaxed gastro pub in the heart of the countryside

Told about the place by a good friend who highly reommneded it...and it didn't disappoint. Booked as a party of 4 on a Saturday night. The hostess was very smiley and happy, making us feel very welcome. She explains that you can choose a main meal or have a tapas style meal (not spanish) by selecting small starter type meals, which is what we chose.
The food was excellent  - couldn't fault a single dish.
What a great place!
I too would highly recommend The Cow and will be back soon..!
