5 reviewsThis was a Ski Club GB dual centre holiday starting with 3 days in Zermatt. What a wonderful start to the holiday! My husband who was leading this holiday and myself, arrived very late in the evening due to appalling weather conditions en route. We had delivered our skis and boots during the summer and were delighted to find they had been unpacked and place in the luxurious ski room and our boots put in to warm for the next day. How kind. Our check in was simple and quick which was great as we were very tired. We missed the evening meal unfortunately but kindly they gave us a wonderful cold platter in our room which was just what we needed. The reception area is beautifully appointed with a warming fire and a wonderful pianist most nights of the week. This was where afternoon tea was served free of charge, a super end to the skiing day. It was also where an excellent welcome drinks evening was held. Thank you for that very pleasant evening. The room was well appointed and warm. I would have liked more space for my clothes though as there is lots to bring when you are skiing and looking good in the evening! The spa area and pool were wonderful, I loved the gentle lighting and relaxing music! However I did not like the screaming children in the jacuzzi, I would suggest that should be an adults only item! The pool is fine for children as long as they are supervised and well behaved. The restaurant was very pleasantly appointed and pretty. However the evening meal was very chaotic. There was always a buffet as well as the four course meal, and we were unsure what was on offer and how it would arrive. On several nights our order was take several times as food arrived in a slightly odd order. Having said that the food was excellent and the BBQ night amazing! we were not allowed tap water on the table and the bottle water was very expensive. It would be nice to be allowed tap water which we would have been very happy to drink. The staff were very very friendly and the manager approachable and hands on, even cooking the BBQ. Wonderful touch. The hotel has the most amazing views of the Matterhorn, do ask for a room with a view but you will need to pay a little more for that. The hotel is within a 3 minute walk of the frequent ski buses and within about 10 minutes walk of the nearest ski lift. It's very central, and within easy walk of the towns beautiful centre. It is very quiet though being away from the towns drinking stops! A very lovely hotel in which to spend the down time from skiing. Relaxing, fun, friendly and luxurious, what more could one ask in Zermatt.
