Résidence du Soleil

The previous reviews accurately describe the accommodation, which is excellent, so I will review my stay from Mon 30th Jan to Fri 3rd Feb 2017. Take bus 50 from the airport and get off at Brausebad which is one stop before the SBB train station. Cross the road and continue for 50 metres in the direction of travel, then turn left on Schuetzetmattrasstrasse, and the Residence is another 100m on the left. As I arrived late the key was left in the key safe which was easy to find and open. I spent Tuesday exploring and familiarising myself with Basel which is an excellent city break destination. The old town district has been protected from excessive modernisation and for a city was remarkably quiet and even peaceful. On Wednesday I went to Lucerne by train (1 hour) which was the highlight of the trip. The town was beautiful with many interesting features, and I took a boat trip on the lake for a few hours and the views were awesome. On Thursday I went to Berne by train and again there was a lot to see and do, including a walk along the river Aare to a small zoo (entrance free) which mainly had animals you would find in a park animal corner, but which also had a pair of lynx, flamingos, alpacas, pigs, antelopes, etc. They also have an open bear pit in the city centre but in winter the three bears were hibernating! I spend Friday in Basel, and as I had a late flight Arno in the office kindly let me leave my luggage in an unoccupied room until I was ready to leave. There was rain on Tuesday from midday onwards, but from Wednesday thru Friday the weather was excellent for winter, with sunshine in the afternoons. I would definitely recommend this trip and Residence du Soleil as a base. Flights to Basel are cheap and you can experience a number of interesting cities in a few short days.
