Thanks to Tai and his team for a fantastic stay over Christmas. Superb and creative food, beautiful house and pool, and our family enjoyed hanging out with the lovely dogs and watching the birds and langurs! Great location, short tuk from family-friendly Wijaya and Unawatuna beaches, but felt far away from the festive crowds. Communication with Tai was excellent throughout, and the team couldn’t do enough to make our stay special (from driving us round in the evenings, to joining in games of cricket, and filling balloons for our daughter’s birthday!). Great value for a group stay, would highly recommend.

Old Clove House is a bit special ! 
We stayed 5 memorable nights here and it was extremly comfortable for just two couples... 
The actually itself house is quite stunning , classically and elegantly furnished , lots of space , with beautiful bedrooms and quirky but lovely outside showers , set amongst green lush mature gardens with monkeys scampering around in the trees surrounding you. A excellent well maintained pool , set at the perfect temperature to come back to after a spell on the beach ...which is only a short Tuk Tuk ride away. The beach unlike most in Sri Lanka is very child friendly being sheltered by a reef so is very safe and allows children to play unhampered by the crashing waves so common in other areas. 
Tai is a very easy going attentive host , offering advice on local options and ensuring your stay is trouble free and enjoyable. 
The Food is fantastic ! And we happily ate in every evening and enjoyed the lovely surroundings , the beers and good company ....Why go out ? 
You can choose from an extensive menu and the food is brought in fresh , cooked and served each day all at cost price ! 
If your looking for something very special ...don't hesitate to book Old Clove House !

A fabulous Christmas had by all thanks to Tai and his beautiful house. Rooms are so pretty and comfortable with so much attention to small details. The children were in a room next to grandparents and yet they weren’t disturbed due to the layout and style of house. Our master room was on the top floor and was stunning. With a lovely inside but outside style shower!  Downstairs the living space was ideal. Plenty of areas to cater for all likes and ages. Food is the best we’ve had in a rented villa. Tai couldn’t have been more attentive and was genuinely keen to make sure everyone’s tastes were considered. Kids had early suppers, grandparents had non spicy food and we even had a fabulous roast turkey for Christmas Day. Everything tasted delicious. We will definitely be back!

Just completed a lovely 3-night stay at the Old Clove House, and we couldn’t be happier. Everything from the pre-stay communication to the stay itself was perfectly organised by Tai (an excellent host) and his team. The house itself is beautifully furnished and is a lovely relaxing oasis teeming with wildlife (we saw monkeys, a monitor lizard, birds and much more during our short stay). The food throughout was exquisite - in particular the curries were spectacular! A huge thanks also to Pradeep for the tuk tuk rides which were a great way to see the local area, namely Galle fort, the turtle hatchery at Koggala, and the tea plantation at Handunugoda. 

Our daughter loved spending time with Coco the dog, who was a welcome surprise when we arrived at the house. 

Cannot recommend highly enough for those looking for a relaxing break within a short distance (10-15 min tuk tuk ride) from Galle town. 



Finally our opportunity to spend some relaxing days at Old Clove House in Mihiripenna near Galle.  Relaxed it was idling around the pool, or dining in the pavilion next to the pool, or escaping for some air conditioned respite from the relentless April heat and walking around the tropical paradise which is the large garden and early morning along the local roads greeting the locals and warding off the street dogs both friendly and in one or two cases slightly aggressive.  Side trips to Unawatuna for lunch beside crashing surf and to our favourite Galle Dutch Fort with all its history and culinary fare.  Back at the villa we were thoroughly spoilt from wonderful meals (including an exceptional black pork curry) all prepared by Prasad a young guy who was a labourer and has only been cooking for less than a year.  His ever smiling warm nature was ever present as he went about the myriad of daily tasks in addition to his cooking.  His elder brother Pradeep, who we met on a previous Galle visit, was equally smiling and took care of Tuk Tuk transport and other jobs around the property.  Overseeing all this was the owner Tai who we have known these past 6 years from our first Galle visit.  Tai is a perfectionist and is unobtrusively all the time ensuring that all is ticking over correctly.  He is an exceptional host and demonstrates his years of experience in hospitality at all times.  We appreciated his care of us and the bamboo walking stick to keep the enthusiastic street dogs at bay.

Not far from talpe beach, in a very quite Area , you will find a nice colonial house in a stunning garden and a privet swimming pool face to an open dinning area, perfect Services and a lot more.......

A dream Place to Stay

It was our 4th visit to OCH, and the 1st post Covid. Sadly the standards have dropped. The food was tastily prepared and the rooms were comfortable. The gardens were beautiful. OCH offers guests a 4th visit free of room charge and you pay only for meals. Purchases are made based on the menu you select. We were grossly overcharged and charged for items we didnt order and were never served. Example 30 eggs were ordered, 6 were used and we were given the bill for 30. We believe that most items were purchased in excess. Tai, the owner admitted that he gave us the bill without checking it. Since we were on a free room stay, we just paid up. I addressed the issue with him subsequently as its the house boys who do the purchases and I wanted to make him aware. He defended their actions, embarassed me by offering to return the several items which I pointed out were over purchased. While he did apologise, he proceeded to insult Sri Lankans and say they were trouble and he will not be giving free stays to any Sri Lankans again. Fact is, he and his team ripped us off, intentional or not, and he acted arrogant and self righteous. The free stay had nothing to do with what happened and so it was totally uncalled for, considering that we paid the bill without disputing it because we had been given a free stay, as per his own policy for returning guests. His attitude to Sri Lankan guests was clear and it galls me that he would live in our country, exploit its beauty and condemn its people. Will never go back to this place. As a senior Trip advisor writer, am cautioning guests to check your bills and pre agree exactly what quantities will be purchased for your meal preparation. The cost we paid was higher than in a 5 star hotel and he kept trying to exaggerate the cost of seafood, which was in fact negligible in the total cost. This was no way to treat us, as we had been returning guests.
