Shammie Guest House

This is a fantastic place to stay if, like us, you are travelling on a tight budget. Set within a large, beautiful garden space, this large guesthouse is perfect for single travellers, couples and families alike. There are 4 large rooms to choose from in the main house. Plus there are also more rooms available in the owners brothers house at the bottom of the land. Those on a higher budget could also opt for one of the two cabanas that have recently been built and offer complete privacy, aircon, etc (at a higher price obviously). We stayed in the main guesthouse and we loved the homely feel of the place. The familly are really friendly, kind and helpful. They made us feel so welcome and really looked after us. The land is fully enclosed and entry is via a gate that is always locked shut. So if you have young children you can feel completely safe here and let them run free while you relax in one of the various hammocks. The guesthouse has a really sociable feel to it. We met several lovely people during our stay. It seems to attract lovely travellers with good vibes! There is a beautiful tree out the front which the owner planted himself 35 years ago. Now it is a huge, fully matured tree that looks amazing and is also the perfect place to sit and chill. We spent several evenings out there around the table with different guests from around the world... Lovely memories! The owners will let you use their own personal kitchen. They also have water and other drinks in their fridge should you need anything. Plus they are always on hand to run you somewhere in their tuktuk if needed. Do bear in mind that all of the rooms are very different. So choose the one that best suits your needs. We now have our favourite, which was perfect for us and our 2 year old son. Breakfast is available if you order it at some point during the day before. We always opted for the Sri Lankan breakfast which can be served straight outside your room at whatever time you choose for 500 per person. The location of Shammie Guesthouse couldn't be more perfect. This is the side of Hikkaduwa that you want to be on!!!! Please don't make the mistake of staying on the wrong side!!! There is a BIG difference. This side has the best part if the beach. Its lovely and quiet. But if you want a bit of nightlife, restaurants or bars they are just a few minutes walk away. At this price, it is without any doubt the best place to stay and enjoy the fantastic beach!
