Palazzo Gallotti

B&B Palazzo Gallotti is wonderful! The building dates back to the 15th Century and is still in the ownership of the same family. Miriam and Roberto gave us a very warm welcome and we immediately felt completely comfortable. The building itself is fascinating and it’s interesting to hear about the on-going renovations, and also the lifestyle that Miriam and Roberto lead with their family, which revolves around being close to nature and self-sufficient. For example, their own bees provide honey (delicious at breakfast on their homemade bread) whilst their orchards provide fruit for jams and preserves and hens provide eggs. The Palazzo is nestled into the side of a huge Mountain and in fact the driveway is very steep! Being such an old Palazzo the building is very substantial and feels solid and castle-like. Features such as high ceilings, double-doors and archways between rooms all contribute to the almost fairytale experience of staying in a Palazzo and our very comfortable bedroom had a view of the mountain, which we soon went to explore. The B&B is very well-placed in the Cilento National Park and there are many interesting places to visit. Whilst you may be keen on hiking and walking (Miriam & Roberto also offer hiking holidays) a car is necessary if you are to explore further afield. The Cilento National Park area is beautiful and awe-inspiring with huge mountains, beautiful waterfalls and pretty villages. The coast is only a 30min drive away and heading South you’ll find a coast line similar to the Amalfi coast but with far fewer tourists. A few of the local places that we visited and would recommend are: the villages of Vibonate and Morigerati and the Grotte del Bussento. Our lasting impression of the 3 days we spent at Palazzo Gallotti is more one of visiting friends rather than staying at a B&B and we are keen to make a return visit. We can’t recommend highly enough.
