Wanderhotel Teiserhof

I just spent a wonderful week in Villnöss/Funes and my stay at Teiserhof was simply perfect. Teiserhof is a family operation in Teis/Tiso with father Karl, mother Hilde, and daughter Christine. Teis is a beautiful small village and a great place away from the crowds. There is only one shop in town selling basic things like snacks and souvenirs. A nice mineral museum is in Teis, but I did not have time to visit. Brixen/Bresanone or Klausen/Chiusa is an easy car- or bus-ride away if you want more than a village life. The hotel itself gives the feeling of being a home away from home. It has a small outdoor pool and a sauna. Rooms are spacious, well-maintained and comfortable. I had a double room with balcony facing the village church. I booked the half-board package with breakfast and dinner included. Breakfast was a scrumptious buffet with eggs, sausage, cold meat, cheese, müsli, yogurt, fruits and an assortment of bread. Dinner was a 4-course meal with a cold-appetizer and salad buffet, a warm appetizer/soup (2 choices) a main course (2 choices), and dessert. Even after hiking all day, I often had to skip dessert as there was simply too much good food. Service was warm and fast, so that guests could have an early rest after a long hiking day if they chose to. If you want a nightcap, there is small bar serving your needs after dinner. There was a grill dinner one evening and we ate outside with live music. The hotel offered a weekly program and I went for 2 guided hikes. I paid 8 Euro per trip. Both trips were highly enjoyable with beautiful views and nice company. Local bus service was excellent and I took buses for 3 additional hiking trips on my own. Villnöss/Funes is a region where local people speak Italian and German. At touristy places English is spoken but knowing basic German or Italian would be helpful. I speak some German so it was not a problem. At Teiserhof, Christine speaks good English and some of the staff speak English too. Everyone at Teiserhof was friendly and helpful during my stay and I was very sad to leave. I met some people who are regular guests at the hotel and I understand why. Teiserhof is a place to return to for sure! Big thanks to Karl, Hilde, Christine and their team.
