Perfect location and accommodations for exploring the region: Parma, Mantua, Modena, Maranello, Cremona, Brescia, Lago d'Iseo, Torrechiara, etc. Sabionetta is charming enough as a respite, returning from daily excursions after a long day driving through the somewhat monotonous Po River Valley agricultural fields. Hotel Giulia Gonzaga has an older, more quaint but updated part, and a newly renovated second section with all the amenities. Giuseppina ("Pinuccia") is a most gracious and helpful host. The breakfast, we looked forward to each morning: wide variety of local cheeses, cured meats, fruits, fresh-baked goods, and excellent espresso, cappuccino, americano, etc. One evening, we opted for take-out pizza from a very good pizzeria, a few steps away. We asked if there was any wine, and Pinuccia provided, gratis, a bottle of Lambrusco. Don't laugh, Lambrusco is tipico of the region and quite good.
