Stay Inn

I come down from Chicago to the keys once a month, flying in and out of Lauderdale so I spend a Sunday night in a local hotel before catching the early bird flight to Chicago Monday. This is the 3rd time I have stayed at this hotel (this time i was in room 13-which had a weird access method) and all 3 stays have been basic and pleasant, 2 of the stays were in remodeled rooms, one was not. The good: I check for bedbugs (I travel a LOT) and found none here, and no other bugs either. The room had been remodeled-euro style, and some of the . It was overall a clean, friendly place that I slept in without concern for a night. The "MEH": there is a courtyard, and this is a "budget" hotel so there are people there sitting and conversing there. If you are accustomed to a wonder-bread life, the characters may be a little concerning, but really there are not drug dealers or sketchy people, just normal folks that decided that $200.00+ a night is a stretch-I suspect a couple of them are actually elderly, on a fixed income and are long term. The sort of bad: There were a few things that were "off"-the TP holder was broken off the wall, the corner shelf that was in the shower was obviously absent, and the USB outlet near the beds was inoperative. I got 2 full size beds (checked both for bedbugs-none) in the room, and the mattresses were placed on plywood boxes-no bed springs and I assume for ease of cleaning, but when I moved the beds over, it was obvious that they had not been moved for awhile (I made about $0.85 in change). The WiFi was definitely weak performance-wise. It seems that they dont throttle individual connections and it is a shared connection so if there are 3-4 guests streaming the connection goes to garbage. The room entrance was a little odd (I was in room 13) and there was a little unlit hallway forcing me to bumble with the key for a second. The AC was kind of noisy and the windows were original to the hotel (and definitely had seen better days. Overall, i would stay here again when I need a room to check emails in (using my own hotspot), sleep for 7 hours and really nothing more. The bad: The non-remodeled rooms really show the age of the hotel, and the design of the time was not meant for the same things that modern designs do. The non-remodeled room was definitely beat, but was all tile so built to take a beating.
