Very good
43 reviewsAfter two nights I spent squeezed in plane's and coach's seats spending another one in bed was more than welcome change. Actually, I thought that Chakana was hostel, not a hotel, because signboard above entrance stated clearly "hostel". Anyways, I was a bit knackered and needed to stretch my legs so I didn't make a fuss because of this and just booked a room for one night, especially that it costed only fifty soles (around £17). The hotel itself is located in side-street (Av. Huascar) off the Avenida El Sol, about 15-20 minutes from Cuzco's Centro Historico (old town). Room was small but clean with tiny telly on the wall. Bathroom with shower was quite spacious but, unfortunately, there was no hot water. Again, I didn't make a big fuss of it and just took a cold shower, I'd heard it's good for blood circulation. Can't say anything about breakfast, as I was leaving next day early in the morning. On telly one could watch some movies and local programs but everything in Spanish ( movies were with dubbing). I don't know if Wi-Fi worked because I'm not travelling with anything that need it. No laptops, no smartphones, no i-phones or any other gadgets in my luggage. There was small rectangular window in the room facing brightly lit corridor, so if someone needs utter darkness to sleep well, she or he, may have a problem, as there was no curtains to cover it with. Staff was very kind and attentive, but communication with them was at times a bit difficult, as they spoke only Spanish or just very basic English, and, in my case, I know only a handful of random Spanish words. Somebody may ask at this point, how I managed to travel around and visit all those places, not to mention finding bed for a night. It's simple. Firstly, I'm making the list of places I wanna visit and checking the routes. When you know where you going to, you'll always find somebody who can help you to get there. Secondly, I'm not ashamed to use sign language. When I bargain or asking for price, or talking about for how many nights I wanna stay somewhere I can show it on my fingers. It's a simple and universal way of communication. One finger stands for one piece/hour/day everywhere despite of longitude and latitude and cultural differences. Also, you can always write it down. Pen and scrap of paper can do miracles. Again, even if certain country have their own way of writing down digits, they usually, using along with them, Latin numbers. That's probably all what I remembered from that stay. Nice place. Oh, and some nice lady from reception provided me with free map of Cuzco and showed to me the easiest way to Saqsaywaman. That was very nice of her.
